I'll never understand the primarily console gamer reaction to guys that do the majority of their gaming on PCs talking about PCs. It seems like every time everywhere, someone has to comment about the absurd price, and then compare it to consoles when it has been and always will be apples and oranges. 4 years ago I got a new VAIO laptop so I could play a lot of games that my old comp couldn't handle. I spent 1400 on it after everything. Now, I used it to play games that I couldn't, but I also used it for like 47,000 other things.

I'm just always confused as to why $2600 spent on a PC would, in any world, be a bad deal in comparison to buying a 360 or PS3.

yes...correct. I wasn't trying to make it a discussion on how we spend our money....that's totally personal and relative. $100 to me could mean something totally different to someone else.

You answered my question earlier as every 4-5 years and upgrade is needed if you want to play the top games on the highest settings I believe. Which is not terrible. I just get confused on the companies constantly spewing out new graphics every year and the $300 and $400 price tags on them....seems a bit crazy. I used to game on PC a little in college and got a bad taste. Bad installs, crashing, slow down...ect. I spent alot of time reinstalling cleaning computer to make sure it stay in good shape. Seemed like more work then fun.

Well IMO b/c the damn tech changes so fast. I mean in 2000 -01 it was extra money to get 512MB of ram and a 60 GB HD. Now Desktops at best buy come with 8GBs of RAM and you can get a portable HD the size of a Credit Card with 1 TB of storage.....WTF.

The main reason companies like ATI and Nvidia push out better cards is simply because the competition is huge. You have to remember once a chipmaker like nvidia releases its chip 3rd party companies like EVGA, XFX ect ect all make their own revisions of the cards and they are the ones doing all the different models and such. So in it you have competition between chip makers, competition between the 3rd party companies who actually put the cards together and competition between all the resellers. What you get is an awesome market where technology continues to grow at an amazing pace.

Realistically if you wanted to play a game at high settings for everything you'd need to spend a butt load on the machine but with PC gaming you can get away from that by turning different settings down or off. What you get is a gaming expierence which graphically is usually better then consoles. Gameplay wise is always in the eye of the beholder though. I just choose to play the role of a smart pc gamer and pick and choose when and what I upgrade. The days of me buying a new video card every year are gone mainly because I don't have the money to do so but really because its not needed much anymore.

My 2007 computer still plays everything I want to at a decent-good level. Half the stuff I listed on the previous page is a couple years old and will look fine.

PC Gamers are a different breed from console gamers, and thats not a bad thing. I take pride in finding the best parts on NewEgg/TigerDirect and piecing together a machine that can beast any game out there. If a game is multi-platform, I can guarantee you the best looking experience will be on PC. Will it be on everyone's PC like it's on everyone's console? No. And thats something a lot of people are willing to live with. I played Far Cry 2 on 360, 1080p, yada yada, and it was nice. I got it for cheap on PC and it just looked so much smoother.

Plus, a huge part of my computing life is open world games. Shit like Football Manager, Civ4/5, the Sims, SimCity, MineCraft, etc that can't be replicated in any real way on console. Not to mention games like Left 4 Dead 2 where you can enjoy it on console, but the real enjoyment comes after when I get to play stuff like shot for shot remakes of Dawn of the Dead. Console gamers miss out on that enjoyment. A vibrant mod community is something that's always been a big selling point for me and what ties me to PC games.

Obviously, I enjoy console gaming and have all three systems. But if a game is multi-platform and I know the PC version got a modicum of love, I am buying there.

Plus, Steam >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ANY console distribution system. Fuck Gamestop right in the face

Second of all its a fucking computer not a gaming console. I use it for maybe 20% gaming while the rest of it is work and pron. I do love how people are gasping at a $1400 computer. You're the same dicks that probably whine when your $400 piece of shit dell "gets slow". Let me guess you all drive Kia's or some other shit car because buying anything else would just be insane. I know jms drives an audi. Whats the point of that your just driving at the same speed as everyone else right?

Also let me know how much your last TV cost? You're kinda forgetting about that part of the equation. Kinda funny to see people like twigg and jms balk at me for spending a grand and a half on something when jms buys useless shit like ipads and twigg has every console (and every game I think) and god knows how much his home theater equipment cost when all I have is a 360 I won for free and a 3 year old 32" tv and thats it.

That's fucking insane. And you wonder why I play on a console? You could buy four 360's, four PS3's and a Wii for that.

                    Am I missing something?
Yes. Computers are computers. Game consoles are game consoles.
