well that's a bit annoying. I guess they are paying tribute to the true arcade cabinet.

Yeah, that's my guess. It can be REALLY annoying come when you have died like, 40 times on say, world 4-1, and you finally managed to get through it. Then you're dying over and over on world 4-2 and you just want to stop for a bit...but you feel like you can't, because then you have to do 4-1 again....

Still, great game. I would recommend being okay with stopping after beating a world and taking a break. When I powered through it, things got to the point where I was fucking up things that I had done 15 times in a row prior to that. Then I was fucking up things even earlier than that, and so on.

Question...there is no save? I have to start from the beginning of the game each time?

Now that is old school. Nice.

So, how long does it take to beat? I'm guessing only a few hours, tops? Like old school NES/Genesis games?

Probably took me like, 4 hours in one sitting? This is after playing world's 1 and 2 a few times because I didn't realize you could warp to the other world's by walking backwards.

You have unlimited lives, you only lose gold. The time depends on how much you die. If you decide to do the Path of the Valkyrie, it would probably take more time in the long run, as it would require much practice.

Path of the Valkyrie is basically where you beat a world without being hit, much less dying. Then you get a second path, that you get 1 to 2 chances on, depending on how many jewels you collected (max you can get, I think, is 2 in a world). You die more than that, you take the regular path and you don't unlock the Valkyrie mark for that level.

I've still only managed to get to world 3 on Path of the Valkyrie. It gets way too intense and allows for such a tiny margin of error, especially in world 2, which features fucking boats on water and guess what? You can't swim.

            20 questions with Seth

What is the purpose of collecting all that gold and jewels?

Just for a high score, IIRC. I stopped focusing on the gold after a while because I'd routinely be finishing world's with 0 - 20 at best. I think that there is a leaderboard.

It does pile up in your little stone room that you enter after completing a world.

                I didnt even know!

In the second part of the unfolding saga that could also be enjoyed independently, you can explore new corners of this unique world and experience the mix of old-school gothic and mad science, with more action, powerful foes and plenty of stunning places to visit.

Didn't even realize this was a thing, let alone out!

I still have to finish the first one! Maybe I'll dive into it again once I finish Transistor.

I enjoyed the first one but it was a bit long...like 16-20 hours long.

Finished Transistor tonight. Really enjoyed it, but am still piecing together the story in my mind. To say that it is minimalist story telling is an understatement.

I got a win in a baseball game against a human! I've only won two or three games in four years of playing this game. Somehow got 7 runs. I am now 1-4 in the HHL.

Oh man, that's usually the sweet spot for me. A glass of bourbon at 12AM was what got me to Yama in Spelunky.
