Meh, does this really surprise you guys once they did this after COD4? Same thing with the SOCOM series it seems like, got Slant Six with their Confrontation, with Zipper being back to do SOCOM 4.
Rumor: Infinity Ward not developing Modern Warfare 3

Good move on their part. They've pretty much tapped out the CoD game in terms of improvements. Think of it just like Madden/NCAA for a second.
You have a solid engine thats popular. But, we've already had 3 games on this engine....it's not really new anymore.
Now you hit diminishing returns, and perenial disapointment. People want a new game, but you can't just create a new game without pissing off even more people. Every change alienates fans (vision cone...weapons...season showdown...ect ect).
Every release is received as worse, with slipping sales and now IW has a tarnished image. Unlike Madden and NCAA though, there are no exclusive licenese to eliminate the competition, FPS is an ultra-competive genre, once a game is stale...it's stale. No new maps and perks are going to save it. People want a different feel.
So, you leave it at the peak (MW2 release), work on something new and keep people excited about the Infinity Ward brand. Now, you can recreate the success you have again...instead of drifting into the pack of also-rans.
EDIT: Horrible spelling in this.Last edited by Sven Draconian; 01-07-2010, 08:57 PM.Comment

Well I like MW2. Maybe because I didnt play MW1 to death so it isnt stale to me. I traded in MW1 when GTA came out and I still played RB6 from time to time. You drive any game into the ground you will be tired of it if the sequel is similar. I do think MW1 had better maps. Cant wait for a new Map pack for MW2.

COD4 was the godliest game ever for it's time. I wasn't too experienced in first person shooters before that. I played some RSV2 but the online other online shooters I played were the old SOCOM games. I wasn't very good when I started playing COD4 but even though I wasn't that good it was still so fun and addicting. I couldn't live without COD4. But WAW and MW2 actually helped me get a life again lol.
Also to be a little more on topic. Infinity Ward either will release MW3 or work on another project very similar to COD just with a different title. But they better make a better longer story mode. I beat the MW2 campaign in one day and COD4 in 2 days.
Coming soon...Comment
