Everybody frequently check the Auction block, go tot eh position you need, the overall you want, sort by buy now, you'll be surprised there are some really good deals. Always check contract lengths tho.
And when collecting players. Say you have an Silver FB... his contract has... lets say 9 games, your down to one left. Rather then spending 250 on a contract, check the auctions for a FB with similar skill sets, and just buy one with a decent contract left, most FB's go for 100-200 coins and this is way cheaper. I would never suggest using a contract for any bronze or silver player, it will be cheaper to buy a new one!
Another note. When going with legendary players just look out for them. I had an Andre Johnson, and a legendary Andre Johnson/ 98 and 99 ovr. while paying 3000 for the legendary with the shorter contract the ONLY different attribute was awareness. Look out for these things. Then I sold that legendary Johnson for 5,000 coins :D
