Datel Space Dock = HD adapter for 360 and PS3

Datel Space Dock Adds External Hard Drive to PS3 and Xbox 360 - Space dock - Gizmodo

This is extremely cool. We don't have to take the damn thing apart anymore and it only costs $40. I hope this works with SSDs.

I didn't have much time to give a synopsis, but if you read the article like stevsta explained, they are not talkin about FAT32 formatting. You can run a PS3 or 360 off of an external now using this adapter.

Its pretty sweet and simple for only $40 bucks.

You for sure can't run the 360 off of it as it sees it as a portable device.

You might be able to run the ps3 off of it but when I did it on usb with my roommate it was slow as balls.

This is a glorified SATA to USB 2.0 adapter and its the same thing as all usb drives.

Please don't waste your money on this.

To add onto it from the article:

Once installed, the drive mounts in your system to backup saved games, play movies, etc, plus you can always plug the drive back into your PC to transfer more files since the formatting structure is really just FAT32.
Really the only bonus to this is it does the formatting for you. It still formats it in FAT32.

This would be great if you could install 360 games on it, but I highly doubt it will.

Well from what I have been reading it just sees it as an external device like any other device you plug in.

Honestly if you pay $40 for this your not only lazy but just dumb.

So this definitely works with the 360? Even if it does now, how long before M$ releases an update that bans it?

God forbid a third party company could give the consumer other options besides paying the ridiculous prices M$ wants for their hard drives and memory units. Remember when Datel created a HDD for the 360? It was exactly the same but cost half as much. That lasted a few months.

I already do this with my little 120GB Drive and when you plug it into an xbox it shows as a external device and really all you can do with it is play movies off it if. If you feel like putting pictures or music onto it that works to but why would you do any of this if you can setup the streaming.

Just go buy a 4GB USB stick for like 20 bucks and be done with it if you want to watch movies on on your PS3/Xbox without setting up streaming.

OK....I dont get any of this shit. As of right now, I have a 1 TB external HD that has movies/music on it. I plug it into my Xbox and nothing happens.

So buying this will allow me to watch movies w/o streaming....

is there something now that is out that allows that?
