what is the ideal OD for you?

just curious what you each think is the best way to setup a OD regarding teams.

Do u think owners should be able to use any team they want, or should it be by prestige, or conference, or what?

should a custom schedule be used so that owners play other owners a specific amount of times, or should the default schedule be used for realism in season 1?

another question...what is the max number of owners they are allowing this year? i think it was 10 or 12 last year...anyone know what it is this year?

It was 12 users, and as far as I know still is.

The perfect OD is one using two conferences, that way competitive balance is a lot closer. In our case we did Rose Bowl, we know number 1 Big 10 team and number 1 Pac 10 team play each other in The Rose Bowl, should add some great competition and a sense of accomplishment between groups of owners. I know if somebody other then me represents my conference I'll be rooting for them, same with the guys from the opposing conference.

Custom scheduling, one game customized to add another human opponent. NCAA OD's go quicker due to shorter weeks and about a 35-50% playing the CPU percentage. It's the best way to advance as far as possible, if every game is against a human you will get maybe 5 seasons waiting for peoples schedules to always match up.

i like the 2 conference way too. But it isnt a lock u would be playing each other in the Rose bowl. one of the teams could be playing for the NT leaving an at large team against the other conference. no way is full proof obviously and i think 2 or 3 conferences works best so u dont have to mess with the schedules and humans play humans. getting an equal number of human games was tricky for me last year, but it worked out

I've been running an OD for 2 years and I've found that letting people pick whatever team they want works best because they have more interest. when you have one or 2 conferences, some people are going to end up with cupcakes or teams that they don't like and will probably end up quitting. In mine, I request that people pick their favorite team if they are available. That way they get more joy out of building up, or maintain their favorite school. My 2010 OD ended just 2 weeks ago and we had a full 12 members before I retired it.

With this, you will have more than your share of CPU games, but with good sliders you'll be ok. I had guys losing to the CPU on a consistent basis. I would also just make sure I schedule OOC games vs other users. Iwould make a thread and have people request who they wanted to play for their OOC games. Some people wanted all humans opponents, some didn't. Some people had more human to human games overall than others but no one ever griped about it.

Edit: With this format, out of the 6 years we ran, 3 out of the 6 ended up with H2H National championship games.

question is though, what are good sliders. 12 people have 12 different opinions on sliders.

the biggest issue i ran into last year (aside from activity) was people cheating the recruiting process. it only takes 1 or 2 people to ruin this for everyone.

Sliders- just go with the majority. I started off with default until i got some good ones and people liked

Recruiting-shouldnt be a probably since they have changed it this year(not exactly sure how yet though)

For recruiting this season, they use topics and a points system. There isn't that smiling football anymore and I like the new system
