Unless that 3.42 patch is a hoax, that's exactly what it says they are doing.

That is fine as I don't charge my controllers with the PS3 USB ports. I want to know how the fuck I am going to play Rock Band (drums - use USB port).

How the fuck am I am going transfer my videos/pictures from my Sony HDR-XR500v to my PS3?

          Also think about file transferring.

Save files, In Game rosters, etc.

If it's disabled, you can't do that anymore.

          This could be horribly bad.

The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on August 19, 2010 (JST), and will disable the USB ports that are available on all PS3 systems, launched in November 2006. Due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.42 system software update.
In addition, disabling the USB ports will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system.
              Consumers and organizations that currently use the USB ports can choose not to upgrade their PS3 systems, although the following features will no longer be available;
              * Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat
              * Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.42 or later
              * Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings)
              * Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.42 or later
Additional information about PS3 firmware updates, including v3.42 (once it becomes available), can be found here: http://us.playstation.com/support/sy.../ps3/index.htm
              Just wanted to add....

PS3 owners who have further questions should contact Consumer Services:

              800-345-7669 (800-345-SONY)

Maybe they will be able to answer my two questions....

that is such fuckin bullshit, they're trying to play it off as "security" reasons as to why they're disabling the USB ports

That looks like a hoax. An official statement like that would be up on the Playstation blog. Especially seeing how it's supposed to be released today.

It will only affect launched PS3's, from when they first came out

having a 40 GB, i am concerned i might be affected, even though i didnt buy when it first came out

Using Windows Media Player or Tversity you should be able to transfer your files over your home network without the need for a USB stick.

Might have to look into that.

Why would Sony disable ports right before the launch of the Move? It would be worthless because the PlayStation Eye would not work.

                            No PS Eye no Move.

So is my PS3 going to be shitted on?

                              CECHA01 (60 GB) - March 2007 (manufacture, not when I bought it)...

Edit: If this isn't a hoax....
