they could disable the use of USB dongles, leaving all other devices active. who knows.

i suppose to wait for Sony to officially say something first.

      I have a 20 GB launch system.
Looks like one or both of us might be getting the cheaper looking slim model (if this isn't a hoax).... Ugh.

No way this is real. Too many peripherals, controller cords, headsets, etc use the USB ports. It would be mass hysteria.

You can't advertise something, ie SIX USB PORTS!, like it says on the side of my PS3 box and then all of a sudden take that away one day. there would be class action lawsuits out the ass.

Thinking this will happen is like thinking your tv manufacturer will release a firmware update disabling your remote control, causing you to have to get up and change the channel each time. Not...going...to...happen.

Well, kudos to these guys for cracking it.

I know that kid a while back got into the hypervisor, but he couldn't fully access the drive.

It will happen eventually. Sony did a fantastic job keeping it this secure.

I could see this getting patched without needing to disable the usb ports

I had that problem. Your Blu-Ray drive is failing and it has nothing to do with Madden 11, just a coincidence.

You can send it to http://www.psr1.com and they'll fix it for 109 if you don't want to pay Sony 150

What I don't understand is that hasn't it always been a $150 flat fee since the beginning, even when the PS3 was $600? Now it's half the price and the repair fee is the same???

Still too much. It shouldn't be over $100 in my opinion and they should actually fix YOUR console and not send some bullshit refurb. If mine broke (60GB backwards compatible) and they send me back some 40 or 80gig there would be hell to pay.

And in related (to the original topic) news...
Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia was granted a temporary injunction by the nation's Federal Court to block the importation and sale of the new PS3 modchips.
