I think everyone recognizes that this is a good thing. That's some serious negative growth from two years ago, trending south.

Last year they weren't happy with the game sales, so lets wait and see what Riticello has to say about these numbers.

But they know that's total bullshit. The public still buys the shit out of great games despite the economic issues at hand. Check out Red Dead.

What this year's number shows, is that the people who gave up on Madden last year either haven't missed it, or weren't impressed by the demo. The longer people stay away, the harder it is to get them back.

Considering their new approach to online play, who the fuck is renting Madden anymore?

Madden 07 had over 2mil sold in the first week. Then 08 went down to 1.6 mil.

                Leafs offseason training!

So they are pushing about, what, about 60% of the units they were pushing roughly 5 years ago? That's panic button time for most companies.

                    Added 07/08 to the OP.

I'd go 06 but VG only has the PS numbers (1.1M) and no Xbox. So I dunno what those are.

Yeah and it's not like renting video games is a new concept either. People were renting games in 07 too.

I hope they sell negative million next year.

The continued drop in sales coincides with stephensonmc's arrival at EA Sports.

How about just getting the guys who make NHL in their to make Madden.

A continued slide down year after year, as someon said, most companies would start to look at the people making the game and what is really going on. But then again, 1.2M copies in a week. Times that $60/game on average, that is $72M in goods sold. I know EA doesn't get it all, but still, a good amount for one week.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

                          "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

These numbers are with no competition in a licensed football game. They have one more year and might see it go under a million for the 1st week.
