And that's before you come to the really offensive bits. Just in case you didn't feel like the game had adequately rubbed your nose in its horrific depiction of women, Duke arrives at a point where two nude ladies promise to lose their pregnancy weight from bearing their alien children, and they plead with you to let them live. (These are the same characters who performed fellatio on you during the beginning sequences of the game.)

The only way past this section of the game is to kill both women.
I cant stop laughing at this.
Best reason to have a license.

I ended up buying it. Some friends of mine from work let me have it for not playing it yet. Its been very entertaining for me so far. Its an average shooter with Duke at his best, and arguably the best video game shotgun I've played with.

I redboxed it too last night, and honestly, I am really enjoying it so far. The jumping mechanics are a little wonky and the graphics are not too great, but not a game breaker. The load times aren't great, but they aren't as long as advertised either. Overall, the game is goofy and really rides the over-the-top wave of the original, which I personally love. I don't know, I'm just finding it to be just fun. Simple and pretty run-of-the-mill, but with charm to spare that makes up for it.

Hey guys, be sure to let me know how long it is if and when you finish it. I'm guessing there isn't much replayability though?

Has anyone tried the online modes?

Someone should fix the arcade so it allows embedding from non-youtube sites again.

I actually really like that Yahtzee review, coming from a person who as started to really get sick of him. For once, he is actually fair towards a game, and all it took was a game that took years to come out and is polarizing (at best) among people that play it. And what comes out? A somewhat middleground review. I realize that it is his shtick but, it doesn't seem like much a coincidence that the first hyped and poorly reviewed game he does gets a not so horrible treatment from him, kind of makes him a parody of himself at this point.

The guy is spot on. That was what put me over the top and decided to get it. I also agree with his points on the Witcher 2- I don't think I ever saw a review where so many negative things were brought up (and at least one I remember- inventory system- is extremely important in RPG) and it still got a score of 9.

Yeah, I don't know anything about The Witcher except for the reviews I've heard and read. I do think that a game review should be more than the sum of it's parts but I've heard a TON of negative things about that game and yet it seems to get 9's across the board. Another glaring thing that stood out is apparently how difficult the learning curve is and how the developers seemed to just assume that you played the first one and already know how to do everything in the new game, like cast spells and access inventory. But it seems to get a pass and as far as I'm concerned that should be the loss of a point right there.

I think that this was a topic that came up long ago here (review scores in general) and how shitty they are. Things like Metacritic really fuck up gaming, because people just trust this overall score for a game instead of taking the time to read a damn review. Now, I realize it's part of the times and at the crux of it I agree with the concept of a score WITH a review. My issue is that reviewers will beat the shit out of a game, leave the person wondering how shitty the score will be and give it a 9, while doing the reverse to another game.

The thing about Duke is, love it or hate it, I don't think that anyone can deny that it was fucked royally by a bunch of review nerds that WANTED it to fail. It happens ALL the time in video games. One example that comes to mind is the severely flawed Alpha Protocol. It has many aspects that are just ridiculous, yet at the same time has role playing aspects that are better than virtually any other RPG out there. Just because it was within the guise of some spy shooter (and by Obsidian) most reviewers decided to do the typical pile on.

That's another thing that bugs me about reviews in general: it seems like some guys just roll with the general consensus way too much. Enough shitty reviews out there? Let's make ours shitty too.

I'm not saying that Duke is a great game. Just that it's a fun game and I would say in no way deserving of less than a 7, and charitably an 8. Especially in a world where these modern CoD rehashes are getting fucking 9's or 10's.

So I'm listening to the Giant Bombcast from 06/14 and Brad Shoemaker said "The real crime is that this is a full priced game. They are putting this game out there with other modern games and charging $60 also, which they shouldn't be."

I finally played the demo to at least get real impressions of this game. Unless the demo is drastically different from retail (which is definitely possible), all of my conclusions about the game from watching the GB Quick Look were pretty much spot-on.

Yes they were. Gerstman was cracking me up although they were railing on it so long. I just kept thinking "Ok, I get it, you hate the game."

I just thought it was funny that Brad said exactly what I said. Not that GB is the end all, be all of opinions. It was just interesting to hear someone like them with the exact opinion I had.
