NHL 11 Impressions

We won our first Elite Championship tonight, winning 4-3 in double OT to take it home. We were up 2-0 with about 7minutes to go, and they score three quick goals, but luck for us we got it back with seconds to go. And in double OT, our LW who had all 4 goals is parked in front of the net, he gets fed a pass in front of the goalie, turns and snaps it for the victory.

We finished ranked 191 in the division and we sit I believe in the top 500, or close to it.

You know you tweaked something wrong when you're seeing backhand goals at like a 5:1 ratio to forehanded wristers/slap shots. It's way too easy to place an accurate and powerful backhander since the last tuner. And yeah, as you mentioned, the goalies are the worst.

I've played like 1/5th of the # of games I've played last year, because IMO they have not taken any steps forward. Goalies still suck. Their new "real time physics" are a joke. Puck physics are still nonexistent. Just so much in general needs to be fixed/improved on to make the game as good as it should be.

They really need to make the deke face-off move less effective, that's how half the goals are scored now is an offensive zone face-off where the Center does that then cross-creases it to the winger....for some rason my buddies who play defense haven't learned how to defend that yet haha.

Oh, yeah, and they need to put fucking charging penalties back in, or make them called more often. So tired of people literally striding the length of the ice to put a hit on you and get away with it every time. That and ramp the interference calls back up. You get way too much of a window to lay hits.

These wouldn't be so bad if every hit didn't wind up with a player on their ass. You see a highlight reel-type hit every 30 seconds in open ice. It's comical. Tone that shit way down.

I will say, it is funny as fuck watching Leaf come from our goalie line and meeting some MFer at our blue line who isn't aware he is down there, and he gets knocked the fuck out. It's charging, but still great to see.

The backhand does work a lot, but honestly, and this is that same old thing, you shouldn't be giving them the chance to do it. I can't remember the last backhander someone scored on us.

I think the major issue they have this year is, they made it to easy for everyone to knock everyone the fuck out. As Lant said, there is a highlight reel hit every 30 seconds, because all you need to do is put 99 in checking and strength and have fun. Right now I have 87 hitting and 87 strength, and I lay most people out. I also have 95 shot powers, and 90 acc, 85 passing, 90 puck control, 90 offence awareness, speed, accell, endurance all 90 range. It is way to easy for me to kill people, and I'm a little 5"11', 187lbs guy. Leafs 6"9' 240 tank puts people in a coma.

The goalie AI is terrible, as is the defence. Lucky for us we have 5 guys always on, so we dont run that issue. I really wish they would spend some time on the AI and the goalies. I thought NHL10 should have been the year of the goalie, but they put one guy onto that. Part of the problem is, the goalies online are rated like 68. I really do think they need to raise that up. Make them a solid 80. I get the reason why, because they want people to play net. But a 68 goalie is just insane, and not many people want to spend that much time playing net.

I also wish the AI wasn't some 'on a line' in that, they seem to skate on a line and never move off it. They seem stiff all the time, and don't have much other motion. That would be nice to see changed. Other then that, honestly this is the most fun I have had in awhile with NHL. Playing with friends helps a lot.

Some of you guys who have teams, we should get some games in.

bring on NHL2K12. Isnt it weird that as soon as 2K doesnt make an NHL game that EA's NHL offering is subpar?

I do not find the glitch goals as bad this year. To me NHL09 (I believe) was the worst year, as the curve shot, wrap around glitches were so heavily used it ruined the game. If 4 goals were scored on you, 3 of them were most likely the result of this and people tried so hard to do them all the time. Now, after playing 3 years of EASHL, its easy to shut these people down.

Of the Elite teams we faced, hardly any of them were exploiting the fuck out of things. It's all about moving the puck around fast, getting to the net and putting pressure on the other team.

And on that deke move on the faceoff, honestly, get a better centermen. It has happened to me, but my faceoff is like 40. Out centre has it at 99 and he has never had it happen to him.

A very good day for us yesturday, as the team went 12-2 on January 1st putting us currently overall 390 and season ranked of 100.

I had a 10pt game for the first win of the season, scoring 8G 2A in that game. I was surprised they didn't quit. Our goal this month is to get to top 100 overall.

Bleh. Sometimes I wonder how I even have a + rating considering I have not played for a club this year lol. 266 games in and +37 . 80 goals and 180 assists with it. Could be worse for a d-man.

I have my highest +/- in this years game. On club I think I am like +111.

Second night in a row now with a big game. We won 15-0, I had 7G, 6A for a 13 point night.
