    [360] Questions

I'm tired of researching, everything I google seems to be posted in 2008 or earlier, so if anyone could just answer these questions for me I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    1) Does the Slim come with a headset, or do I need to go out and buy one of those Xbox Live starter kits (again)

    2) Do I need to buy a remote for DVD playback, or is that included right out of the box?

    3)Play n Charge kit...any better alternatives?

4)Opinion on the DVD upscaling capabilities? Better than PS3? The same? Worse?

    5) Sell me on why I need a hard drive bigger than 20 GB when I can stream whatever I want (supposedly)

    6) Does it play .avi's?

7)I want to restore my MmmmBeeeeer xbl account that probably lapsed sometime in 2008. How do I go about doing that? Can I buy one of those 1 year cards that people find for 30-40 bucks or do I have to use my CC and pay full price? I'm going to have a hell of a time even remembering any of the info on that account.

I think that is it for now, thanks

I think you need to buy it separately. As well as HD cables...the new ones don't come with anything except plain composite cables.

    2) Do I need to buy a remote for DVD playback, or is that included right out of the box?
You can use the controller, too. The remote is nice, but it needs to have line of sight to the unit.

    3)Play n Charge kit...any better alternatives?
Batteries. I stopped using the PnC because the battery life was retarded short. The rechargeable batteries I use are better anyway.

4)Opinion on the DVD upscaling capabilities? Better than PS3? The same? Worse?
I don't use the 360 for anything but streaming anymore. The PS3 media is just that good.

    5) Sell me on why I need a hard drive bigger than 20 GB when I can stream whatever I want (supposedly)
Because it will fill up mad quick. I'm constantly deleting shit now because I don't have room on my 3 year old 20 GB.

    6) Does it play .avi's?
Not directly. You need a media player like http://tversity.com/ or http://www.playon.tv/playon

I have both. PlayOn is more of a streaming media player for Hulu or any online videos. TVersity is a media server that allows you to play pretty much any video codex you have saved on your computer, with the exception of a few. PlayOn is pay to play, TVersity is free.

It's just a matter of setting up the network to allow media sharing.

7)I want to restore my MmmmBeeeeer xbl account that probably lapsed sometime in 2008. How do I go about doing that? You need the email address and password for the account recovery.

Right now, there is a deal on XBL on the dashboard for 40% off XBL (it's $29.99 as opposed to $49.99...and it's going up to $59.99 soon). I'm not sure if it's still there, since I haven't signed on today, but it was there yesterday.

      1) comes with everything a regular fat console came with

      2) you can use the controller as the remote

      3) theres also one that charges rechargeable battery packs separately and also if i remember duracell made some type of thing where you set your controller on it and it charges dont know the name

      4) dont really watch dvds

      5) bigger hard drive means you can install games on your 360 + d/l demos and other dlc without having to delete stuff 20 though should be fine if you dont want to install games

      6) yes

      7) I think you need your old CC you used or just the email you used (should be able to use the email and in fact if you can log in on the xbox.com website you should be fine)
      RIP

Thanks guys. When you say I need to buy HD cables, a regular HDMI cable will work right? I don't have to buy some expensive MS cable?

any type works but I think the newer additions of consoles come with a hdmi cable although it may be really small

I just called xbox to ask about the 40% of thing and if you can cancel it. The guy, his name was "Chris" said that as long as you cancel it before it is suppose to renew, it won't automatically renew. I forgot who was asking that question before but that's the answer

edit: you can turn auto renewal off after purchasing the membership for 40% off. I just did.

              no idea

              2) Do I need to buy a remote for DVD playback, or is that included right out of the box?

u would have to buy one...but no need since the controller does all that anyways....PS3 controller is more user friendly as a remote for playback

              3)Play n Charge kit...any better alternatives?

sure...rechargeable batteries and charger for $14 at walgreens

4)Opinion on the DVD upscaling capabilities? Better than PS3? The same? Worse?

i think they are both the same....but i use my ps3 for ALL audio and video playback and streaming...its just more user friendly imo

              5) Sell me on why I need a hard drive bigger than 20 GB when I can stream whatever I want (supposedly)

if u think a 20 is enough then go with that. I never thought i would need a bigger HDD but then realized that i wanted to be able to store more crap and install games to the HDD...so i upgraded. Did I absolutely have to get a bigger HDD? No....but its nice that i now have tons of space

              6) Does it play .avi's?

yes....it plays back anything the ps3 will playback...i never have issues with any files types

7)I want to restore my MmmmBeeeeer xbl account that probably lapsed sometime in 2008. How do I go about doing that? Can I buy one of those 1 year cards that people find for 30-40 bucks or do I have to use my CC and pay full price? I'm going to have a hell of a time even remembering any of the info on that account.

u should be able to recover the GT if u have all the required info (email and password). You can do that right on the 360 as soon as your hooked up to the internet....once you recover it, then sign it up for Gold XBL

Keep in mind that if you use a new name u will get 1 month of gold for free

I always try to buy a card instead of using my CC info. when u renew your account, MS by default will set you up as an auto renew. so when your XBL is up, u might have a gold card waiting to be used and then cant cause the auto renew feature resold you. You can turn off auto renew on the XBL website only...not on the system.

plus once u enter your CC info into their system, u cant delete it. very annoying to me

I think that is it for now, thanks
              hope that helps

                  1) Does the Slim come with a headset, or do I need to go out and buy one of those Xbox Live starter kits (again)
It comes with a black headset. It's nothing different or new, same as the old ones.

                  2) Do I need to buy a remote for DVD playback, or is that included right out of the box?
You can use your controller for DVD's. However, there isn't a remote included.
                  3)Play n Charge kit...any better alternatives?
I use rechargable batteries. I use them for more than xbox because I can use them for my tv remove, toothbrush, razor, etc.

4)Opinion on the DVD upscaling capabilities? Better than PS3? The same? Worse?
I believe it's the same but I don't know anything about the PS3.

                  5) Sell me on why I need a hard drive bigger than 20 GB when I can stream whatever I want (supposedly)
If you like downloading demos, save a lot of files, and installing your games to your HD for faster loads, then you may need a bigger HD.

                  6) Does it play .avi's?
                  Not familiar

7)I want to restore my MmmmBeeeeer xbl account that probably lapsed sometime in 2008. How do I go about doing that? You can recover it and you'll get everything back. Once you recover it, if your gold is expired, you can either re-new it with a CC over the dashboard or buy a card code from the store and enter the code.
I think that is it for now, thanks

I'm wondering the same thing. Riley was spot on with everything.

Although I think it's funny that if I would've said some of the things that he said, even though they are 100% accurate, I would be "bashing" the 360.

Where's Leaf when you need him?

I've had a 20GB hard drive for 3 years now and it's still only about half full, but I also only really save game stuff on it and delete demos after I play them.....so I guess it depends on what you would use it for.

whats funny is when i started answering the questions i figured they were asking opinions rather than fact. As i went thru i was thinking...chef already answered this stuff....but i said fuck it and continued.
