Gears of War 3 Delayed

Gears of War 3 has been delayed until Fall 2011. Why beat around the bush? The news sucks, especially considering how good Gears 3 has been looking over our last few visits. What was once to be a roaring April has now gone out like a lamb; wasn't that supposed to happen to March?

According to an official statement released by a Microsoft spokesperson about the fate of Gears 3, it's merely a business decision:

“Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011. The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011. However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”

So, what does this mean for next year? And what does Epic have to say about this?


Well, we heard from Rod Fergusson, Executive Producer on Gears of War 3, who helped put to rest any conspiracy theories:

"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue. Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall. Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I'm really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come."

Bummer! We've barely started the 2010 holiday season, and already our eyes are on the end of 2011. If GOW3 is the marquee title for the holiday season, does that mean the yearly Halo ride seemingly comes to a close? What other Microsoft titles will they have to entice Xbox fans?

With big games like Rage and the next Call of Duty dated for the end of next year already, it's already looking pretty epic. Now, with the addition of Gears of War 3, it's just getting ugly! Even worse, we're a year away from finding out what happens to Carmine?! Oh the humanity!

Havent kept up since summer.

Thats not good news.

Going h2h with Call of Duty MW3 would be dumb.

A 6+ month delay for no reason other than holiday timing is going to piss people off. It took them 6 title updates to fix the abortion of launch day MP. If this game isnt essentially flawless at launch theyve pretty much crushed the franchise.

Multiplayer Beta due out early next year

Gears of War 3 is getting a public beta early next year, Epic Games revealed at an event this week at their studio.

This will be the first time a Gears of War game is getting a public beta. Epic Games' Rod Fergusson told the gathered press that the team has always wanted to do a public beta, but only if they could later use that feedback to improve the title.

Now that Gears of War 3's launch has been pushed back from April to the fall of 2011, the team thinks they will be able to to do just that.

No word yet on when next year the multiplayer beta will be hitting.

The videos I've seen look awesome. Can't wait for it. The franchise is easily my favorite of this console generation.

Epic Games' beefed up Xbox 360 shooter series may be adding a little motion control to its Locust-chainsawing action, according to one report that says Gears of War is getting Kinect enabled.

IGN claims that a "reliable source" has indicated to the publication that some type of Gears of War experience with Kinect support will be unveiled at next month's Spike TV Video Game Awards, where new, exciting announcements tend to happen. Whether that might mean Gears of War 3 or an all-new entry in the series IGN does not specify.

Last year, when Kinect was still known as Project Natal, Gears of War series designer Cliff Bleszinski said motion controls were "not the kind of thing you tag onto a game like that," referring to the then-unannounced Gears of War 3. But the B also said Kinect was "another amazing way that we can expand the gaming experience to a wider audience and enhance what's already there."

While it seems highly unlikely that a Gears of War game would be playable with Kinect's brand of hands-free gaming, it's certainly possible that it could use some of the sensor's features—like voice recognition—to "enhance" the experience.

We'll know for sure in less than a month. The Spike TV VGAs will be taped on December 11 in Los Angeles.

Bulletstorm Includes Gears of War 3 Beta
Epic Games announces "Epic Edition" for Xbox 360.



A special Xbox 360-only version of Bulletstorm called the "Epic Edition" will include early access to the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta, Epic Games announced this morning.

This new edition also includes bonus in-game content for Bulletstorm when playing online, including: 25,000 experience points, visual upgrades for the leash, Peace Maker Carbine, and boots and armor.

The Bulletstorm "Epic Edition" will only be available in limited quantities starting on Feb. 22, 2011 for $59.99.
