Went over to Epic yesterday and played the Alpha version of Gears because my buddy works there. Pretty sweet.

I suddenly regret not hanging out at Webster Hall with you.

Gears of War 3 Has 'Special Unlocks' For Serious Epic Fans




Next year's Gears of War 3 will (somehow) reward players of Shadow Complex, Unreal Tournament 3 and other already released games from the folks at Epic Games, according to the Xbox 360 game's designer.

Gears of War man Cliff Bleszinski wrote on Twitter today that fans should "Look for special unlocks in Gears 3 for those of you who have played other Epic games such as Shadow Complex, UT3, Gears, and Bulletstorm," a teaser for next fall's entry in the third-person shooter series.

Of course, those "unlocks" could be anything from Xbox 360 Avatar items to multiplayer skins to weapons lifted from the arsenals of those gun-heavy games. We're keeping our expectations calmly in check, but really hope that Epic goes big with those unlocks. Any better suggestions?

Very cool..I dont play any of those games but great for those that do.

I like the midnight launch gold hammer burst and things along those lines with in game unlocks ad nice perks and variety IMO.

Epic does a good job with listening about XBL items...Id prefer in game stuff.

You can also unlock Cole's trashball uniform as a skin in MP by playing a certain number of beta matches. It was on Kotaku, don't remember the number. Same thing he has on in the screen above, just with the helmet on.

Gears of War 3 beta now available for all Gold members

The Gears of War 3 beta is now available to all Xbox Live Gold members, which includes three new multiplayer game modes and four maps.

Two of the maps are Stadium and Supermarket, and the other two have to be voted on at the Facebook page. The maps being voted on are Mercy, Old Town, Overpass and Trenches.

The Gears of War 3 beta had previously only been available to gamers who bought Bulletstorm.

Beta Details

To the surprise of Bulletstorm Epic edition owners, Gears 3’s beta will be available to all Xbox Live Gold members in mid-April. It will feature three new multiplayer game modes and 4 maps. Two maps have already been confirmed – Stadium and Supermarket. The other two maps will be chosen by fans through a contest on the games official Facebook page. The four selections are – Mercy, Old Town, Overpass and Trenches.

New Multiplayer Modes

King of the Hill – Combines with Annex and simplified with a new user interface and ring that moves around the map.

Capture the Leader – Capture and hold either Chairman Prescott or Queen Myrrah. The leaders aren’t useless though as they can see through walls and coordinate their teammates. Also, everyone gets one smoke grenade that can be used to force the player holding the leader to let go.

Team Deathmatch – Each team gets 15 respawns. Once those are gone, it is game over for the team that gets killed first.

Unlockables

“Cole’s Thrashball outfit can be unlocked once you play 70 matches of any game type. You get to keep him in the retail version if get 83 matches total.”

Dedicated Servers – Epic has also stated that the game’s multiplayer will have its own dedicated servers, unlike Gears 1 & 2. This ensures a much improved online experience over the first two games.


Update
The Gears of War 3's beta will be available to all Xbox Live Gold members in mid-April but there's a chance you may not get in since there will be a number of slots so the only way to guarantee earlier access and place is through the Bulletstorm Epic Edition.

Just look at the source maynard got it from and you'll understand.

Since the GoW3 beta was announced it was to my understanding that Bulletstorm would include an early access to the beta and that a public beta will be released shortly thereafter. Not sure why it would be news that it's public when that's what it was planned to be in the first place.
