Aren't newer model PS3's backward compatible?

(Serious question - haven't really followed anything to do with the PS3 since I got an 360 two years ago due to cost - but have got a summer job lined up and plan on diverting some of next years food money towards a PS3)

Eh, I got one like two years ago and it's not backwards compatible. Don't know if I just got a shitty one, or whatever, it was a gift so I didn't raise a stink.

Sucks though because I want to play NCAA 07 all the time.

No only the early models. They cut out the hardware as well as other usb ports etc to cut costs on the console.

Its not a launch model its the 80 gig motostorm but it is backwards compatable. I also dont wanna go through the hassle of converting everything from one HDD to another

Just a heads up, after you get it fixed, I'd sell it.

You can easily get $300-330 for that model (I did) on Ebay - that fix will only be temporary so if you plan on keeping it, consider that YLOD to rear it's ugly head again in the near future.

I just know my PS3 is going to be next. I have the worst luck with electronics. I'm on my fifth (or is it sixth?) 360 and still my first PS3. I'm on pins and needles.
