You can put points toward it and earn attachments for sniper rifles that'll help later on.

I've been doing my second playthrough lately, and there is a lot that I missed by avoiding the sidemissions on my first playthrough. The fetch-quests seem to be overabundant though. I've also got the DLC installed, and while it's nice to have insight into Prothean history, he's certainly not required to enjoy the experience.

Man I must have done things just as Bioware designed because I only switched discs 3 times all game (same as ME2). I read some horror stories though of people being 11 hours in and having changed discs like 12 times.

I switched 5 times in the span of playing 2 hours. 30 second task yes, still annoying as fuck.

I don't usually complain about it and personally had no reason to, but if I had to change a disc 1 or more times an hour, it would get pretty fucking old, especially if it were for a side quest that would last all of 5-10 minutes (which I have read is the case for some people).
