    [PS3] PS3 Media Server Help

Is PS3 Media server and Windows 7 whats giving me the problem? I recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 from XP. Im installing all the old programs I always use, one is PS3 Media Server to stream movies from my PC to PS3. Well, when I open the media server it doesn't recognize the PS3 when its on and gives me that big red X. The PS3 is showing that there is a media server started but it cannot access it. It gives me the following message:

Access to the media server is not allowed. It is possible that the system name for this PS3 system "PS3-024" has not been registered. Check the settings for the media server.

I never got this message when using XP. Anyone know what the problem is?

i had it for a few days and uninstalled it. i use WPM and thought PS3 Media Server was pretty shiity compared to WMP.

i dont like having to have the app open to use it with the ps3...wmp doesnt make u do that, it just runs in the background. Plus with PS3 media server i was having all kinds of streaming issues that i never had before.

i dont know about your issue and i dont have windows 7

Thanks for recommending WMP Maynard, I never even thought to try it out.

Works much better, and can steam 720p wirelessly. TVersity would skip :D

no problem. glad its working for you. the only difference using WMP as a media streamer is the ps3 wont see mp4 files. That was why i looked at tversity and ps3 media server.

i dont use many mp4's so the added hassle of those other servers wasnt worth it compared to wmp

Ill keep looking. PS3 MS is superior IMO, well at least when I had it working. Having to have the app running is minor. It plays damn near every file, even uncompressed MKV files. A big plus when you want to watch huge rips of blu ray movies without having to convert them. Anyways Im hard wired. I wont use WMP because I dont like the program and have deleted it from my HDD.

i hear ya. its about what your needs are. For you, WMP would not cover you.
I dont use those file types which is why WMP is the better option for me.

In researching tversity and ps3 media serve, and having used both briefly, I thought tversity was a better media server than PS3 media server

PS3 media server seemed very bare bones. Although people seemed to recommend the beta version instead of the stable version

bigbucs, you might want to goto AVS Forum in their PS3 section and ask your questions

I figured it out. Was something so simple, windows firewall. Working flawlessly now. I have used tversity and PS3 is better IMO.
