Is a 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' announcement on the horizon? - Game Hunters: In search of video games and interactive awesomeness - USATODAY.com
A mysterious website has popped up that could be connected to the next chapter in Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise.
The site, findmakarov.com, includes a countdown ending in roughly five days.
The countdown numbers are presented in a font similar to 2009's Modern Warfare 2. Also, the name "Makarov" noted in the website's link could refer to Vladimir Makarov, a key villain from Modern Warfare 2.
The end of the countdown also coincides with next week's Game Developers Conference held in San Francisco, which would potentially serve as the site for a Modern Warfare 3 reveal.
Modern Warfare 2 was developed by Infinity Ward, a studio that has experienced significant upheaval following the game's launch. In March 2010, the studio's two leaders -- Jason West and Vince Zampella -- were ousted, prompting a lawsuit against Activision for breach of contract. Activision countersued, claiming the duo secretly met with rival publisher Electronic Arts.
In January, the Los Angeles Times reported Infinity Ward is working on the sequel with the help of two other studios.

Activision launched a new website findmakarov.com with a countdown timer appears to be indicating that Activision has an announcement of Modern Warfare 3 planned for next week’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco.
According to That Videogame Blog, a url for the countdown page was sent to them on a set of dogtags which also had details for Lieutenant General Shepherd, a principal villain in Modern Warfare 2 alongside Makarov, printed on them.
Big news on the Call of Duty front today; Activision’s sent over a set of dog tags (below) with a link to the website findmakarov.com. The bloody tags also included the message “end the war” along with the details of Sheperd, one of the villains from 2009′s Modern Warfare 2.
What’s on the website you ask? A countdown, currently sitting at just under 5 days. A quick flash of the Modern Warfare 2 villain appears when you load up the page. You may well remember that Makarov made it all the way through the last game. Guess that’s a Modern Warfare 3 reveal next week then.
Makarov was one of the bad guys that escaped in the previous Modern Warfare title, and his return for the third game in the series was assumed to be a given. Last month Modern Warfare 3 was all but officially confirmed for this November, and with the stage set for GDC, it seems like we could have an official unveiling next month.
Look for the reveal next week and the start of the hype train. The only question left is will it be made by the remains of Infinity Ward or will it be made by the newly formed Sledgehammer games? Or perhaps a combo of both.
