    [ALL] Portal 2

A bit of news regarding the Steam integration with PS3:

Of course, Portal 2 on PS3 will offer cross-platform matchmaking with Steam friends, Steam achievements (in addition to PS3 trophies), and Steam Cloud support to save co-op and single-player game progress on PS3. Note: "Game saves and progress from a PlayStation 3 are incompatible with other platforms."
Portal 2 for PS3 Steam details: Steam Cloud, Steam Play, Steam-y | Joystiq

The last bit was something that I was curious about. So it sounds like you won't be able to resume your game on another platform (PS3 to PC, vice versa).

Also, some instructions on how to link your PS3 account to your Steam account with an interface pic.

I think im going to buy this. I never even played the first Portal but it sounded interesting. Ive been looking for a cheap copy of the Orange Box for ps3 at used game stores. I never bought it when it first came out for ps3 due to all the framerate, lag, and freezing complaints

It looks like those who pre-ordered their PC copy on Steam might be able to play it early starting today (I'm jealous if this is the case). This Potato Fools Day ARG that VALVe came up with has been quite an interesting story to follow the past few days. We should know more when the countdown is over at the end of the hour.

      More info about the ARG:

Not bad if you want the instant discount.

Amazon is giving a $20 credit on 360/PS3 versions.

K-Mart is giving $15 for a $40 gaming purchase and $60 with a $120 gaming purchase next week (IIRC).

          Update on the PC release:

So VALVe is willing to release the game early, but they want people to play the games included in the Potato Sack Bundle that they've been selling on Steam for the past two weeks. No one is quite sure what the requirements are though since the countdown page has updated.

Yeah, which is why all the CAGers are reporting the cheaper price to Amazon. I doubt they will match it plus the $20 coupon but it's possible. If they do I will definitely order it. I'm not really interested at this point but if they honor a deal like that it would be too hard to resist.

If I'm reading this correctly, you get the $10 off now, and you also get 500 reward zone points for the preorder ($10 off coupon). If that's right, you're essentially getting a $20 in discounts/credit if you get it through Best Buy right now.

Not bad. And you could probably pick it up at the store when it opens instead of waiting for it to be delivered.

I only play Valve games on PC (and I'm SUPER excited for this) but my funds must be reserved for other games (namely, L.A. Noire).

They're definitely better on PC given the support that VALVe gives to their titles and the mod community. I'm really interested to see what's to come with the PS3 version and Steamworks integration.

The Steamworks stuff looks a little more disappointing than previously thought.

Many of the added benefits of Steamworks already exist on PS3...Voice chat, friends lists/chat, Achievements.

I agree. There seems to be untapped potential in its current state. I really hope Valve continues to support this and improve it as time goes on. However, the big thing is that it'll open up the player base for co-op IMO. Based on the lack of interest for the game on VSN, the PS3 base (and perhaps the entire console base) seems to be rather limited compared to other games. Meanwhile, the PC community seems to be pretty excited for the release especially with the ARG that's been going on.
