[3DS] Wii 2 to be revealed at E3; Significantly more powerful than 360/PS3

-Pre-announcement this month, full reveal at E3
    -1080p
    -More powerful than 360/PS3
-All-new controller (not just a updated wiimote) with built-in HD screen
    -Backwards compatible with Wii games

Multiple sources have confirmed to Game Informer that Nintendo will reveal a new console between now and E3 2011 in June.

Game Informer's sources say the console is capable of running games at "HD resolutions," though it is unclear whether not it will be as powerful as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Our sources have said the console's power will be greater than or equal to the PlayStation 3. Nintendo is reportedly showing the console to publishers to garner interest for a late 2012 launch.

Sources tell IGN that Nintendo will release a pre-announcement this month with a full reveal expected at E3. Sources say the console will be backwards compatible with current Wii software.
Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market.
What's most exciting about the Wii successor however is its all-new controller, which industry sources have indicated is not simply an upgraded Wii Remote, and will even feature a built-in HD screen.

Our sources did not specify whether or not the controller displays will feature any other functionality, such as that of the DS's touch screen, but it's easy to imagine the sort of innovation an extra screen could bring to Wii 2 games.

"Nintendo's plans sound unreal," one source said. "Publishers are already planning launch titles and it's all very exciting.

"The hardware is even more powerful than current HD consoles and backwards compatible with Wii. The controller will be all-new and has a HD screen on it."

Okay, so Nintendo is finally making a console targeted towards the 360/PS3 crowd?

Even if it's significantly more powerful, I won't spend the money on one. What's going to piss me off is if this makes Sony and Microsoft feel like they have to push their next-gen of consoles out quicker than normal.

Of course it will make money. I'm just hoping MS/Sony don't feel like they have to do something drastic to keep up.

This is like when they tried to tell us the Wii was going to be more powerful than the Xbox/PS2. It is, barely. It shouldn't even be a selling point that the next gen system is more powerful than current gen.

                  Forgive me for being skeptical.

nintendos stable of characters that get title after title and are never bad are easily the companies biggest advantage.

So much Nintendo hate just for the Wii, while we all consider the N64 our favorite consoles of our generation. Well my generation.

How are they going to make these controllers at a decent price point? It will be impossible. I'm not shelling out 350$ every time I need a new controller. If they switch to touchscreen for controlling games, I'm going to hate it. I try to play games on my iPhone but it's extremely hard not to play with a joystick or raised d-pad.

We all adapt though, we'll see.

                            $50 is already too much.

This Wii 2 will come out with these PS3-or-better graphics, and then Microsoft and Sony will release their consoles a couple years later and blow it out of the water. Trying to recapture the hardcore market would be a terrible decision for Nintendo.
