    Courtesy of IGN, we've gotten our hands on some details about "Project Cafe" (Or Wii 2, if saying the codename makes you feel silly). IGN says they have intel on many aspects of the new console, ranging from the hard tech to console design.

    According to their report, Project Cafe will have the following:

    • - GPU Wii 2's GPU will be a modified version of AMD's R700 architecture.
    • - CPU The CPU will be a custom-designed triple-core version of the IBM PowerPC chipset.
    • - Visuals Project Cafe will run in 1080p, and may be able to utilize Stereoscopic 3D, though it hasn't been confirmed as a feature.
    • - Size & Design The console will be around the same size as the first-gen Xbox 360, and may be designed to look like a futuristic looking Super Nintendo.
    • - Price Say goodbye to Nintendo having the "budget" console: Project Cafe may cost between 350 and 400 dollars.
    • - Release Date Supposedly, the Cafe itself could be ready to ship from the manufacturer to retailers as soon as mid-to-late October, but in order to give developers more time with the new hardware, Nintendo may not launch the console until early 2012.

    We've been unable to confirm these details ourselves and, in fact, have been told by our sources that the system will launch in 2012. IGN's previous Wii 2 coverage has dovetailed with things we've heard and reported, but all of this is a bit nebulous for those of us trying to nail things down.

      I don't care if Nintendo sells 1 billion Wii's, it'll still be a glorified paperweight with little to offer in the game department and a gimmick for a controller.

      And while Nintendo's stable of games are well designed, I'm over them. I was getting tired of the same Mario, Zelda shit WHEN IT WAS ON THE SUPER NINTENDO. Now it's just overkill. I know that that will both some people, but it's just the way I feel. I'm tired of the same (bad) stories and basically the same exact features all for a few tweaks in gameplay. Just my .02. I will not be duped by Nintendo again.

        Why exactly do you need an HD screen (or for that matter, any screen) on the face of your controller?

          Good for them. They beat the shit out of ps3 and edged out 360 with the weakest console and no real AAA titles.
          They aren't resting on laurels or the stupid ass *10 year cycle* bullshit Sony and MS are shitting on us with.
          It also would jump ahead of any Apple based TV gaming that may steal the casuals during this terrible lull.
          Nothing but props for Nintendo.
          Best reason to have a license.

            I am a fan of the 10 year cycle. Gives the system more of a value. I'm glad there are people like you that are content with buying a new system every 4 or 5 years also

              This, I will never know. I never bothered to look at the dumb ass screen on the Dreamcast controller memory unit and that was on par with an Apple IIe monitor. Total waste of resources.

                Nintendo kicked the shit out of the PS3 and 360. I'm not sure where you're getting it only "edged out" the 360?

                From Video Games, Charts, Articles, News, Reviews, Community, Forums at The VGChartz Network
                Wii= 86.4mil
                360=53.0
                PS3=49.4

                And how anyone can't appreciate a longer life cycle is beyond me. Most "experts" say that this generation of consoles pretty much maxed out games from a tech stand point so there isn't much further they can go. The next wave of consoles will probably be a negligible difference.

                The longer this cycle the better.

                  I find this odd.
                  People are willing to upgrade their PCs, TVs and a lot of other electronic shit on a 4-5 year turnover. Hell, they're willing to do the same with automobiles ... but doing it with a console is a no go?
                  Seems strange to me.

                    You and me both.......I find it hard to fathom sometimes. The only thing I can think of where people are having issues with this new console generation are the issues that Microsoft had with the RROD. Even with those issues, Sony could not capitalize with the PS3 and get ahead of them. With those issues, I don't think people want to buy another console.

                    Another issue at hand could be that both just released the Kinect and Move, respectively. Some are probably saying to themselves 'Why release something like that and then release a new console?'

                    EDIT: I am not saying that I want to put money out for a new console right now. If one comes out and it has more than a couple games I want to play, I will. I am for anything that makes gaming better, and that means other companies need to push themselves to develop a better product, not just sit back and wait.

                      My bad.. I havent followed anything since 08.Wii was barely edging 360 and had tripled PS3 in sales to date.

                      Either way point is the same. Nintendo beat everyone is continuing to push the envelope. The others are stagnant.

                      If these awful 10 yr cycles were around before youd still be playing PS2 and Xbox 1. Not sure why people that complain about the Wii being weak graphically or lacking hardcore games are the same that want 10 yr cycles. You want hardcore games ? You need good tech under the hood for it. Id much prefer say playing Gear of War 3 on a Xbox720 then 360 . At this point every dev for the next few years is going to be creatively limited on what they can present visually.

                      Im a tech junky first gamer second. I cant fathom how bored I would be if the only things available to buy were a first gen iPhone , a PS2 ,and 36 inch tube tvs.

                      Hey listen people were ((maybe still are)) buying PS2s by the drove. I dont have an issue with that. But I want technology to be pushed not stagnated.

                      Id love to know what next games would do built from the ground up with 1080p/3D/motion sensing/massive storage space/and new controllers.

                      Only thing I can remember being impressed with was playcalling on NFL2K.

                      But today..
                      Playcalling in football.

                      If you want a "field" presentation instead of tv presentation the scoreboards etc can be on the mini screen.

                      Imagine playing a shooter and your ammo count was on the controller instead of on screen.

                      Instead of some on screen pop up of my cia boss giving me a new mission itll pop up on the mini screen.

                      Sub menus for equipment or settings.

                      I can be playing my campaign and peek at my screen to see which of my friends is on live instead of having to pause and hit guide.

                      While online itll give me a live view of whos alive whos not , leaderboard for the match etc.

                      A co-op game can implement some buddy system where if we split up I can see whats on his screen and vice versa.

                      When i launch my explosive RC or guide a rocket I can watch it on the mini screen.

                      Overall it can potentially clean up alot of the clutter of on screen displays.

                      Agreed as I mentioned above. I havent had my mind blown by a game visually in a long time. Having to wait 4-5 more years is saddening.

                          Crysis 1! Lol people can finally afford and find computers to run it now. Shame how a 4 year old game looks better then most games out now but that because console hardware is old news!

                          Give me more powerful consoles now!

                              In short: no. I feel like it peaked on the SNES honestly (although many love Ocarina the most). It suffers from the problems that all Nintendo games do: 1) they never grow up; and 2) they always have the same (or at least drastically similar) stories that are never even remotely well told or intriguing.

                              "Hurry [insert Nintendo hero here]! Go get the [triforce/princess/metroid]!"

                              I feel like the good characters they have like say, Pit from Kid Icarus, they're just wasting while they make Mario after Mario or Zelda after Zelda.

                                to me, the Wii is much better for playing with a lot of people. most of the time when i play, i am alone. i havent touched my Wii in months since i stopped playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 (which to be fair is a great game).
