RPGs are weird. At least Mass Effect tried to give it a sci fi angle. But there has to be some way to add something new to it. Even if its something ridiculous like a horror RPG where there is no clear good and bad and shoving your best friend and best marksmen into a zombie pack increases your food ration.

Silly goose, this is Houston not Dave.

Dave is the dimwit 7 post up trying to decide if Madden is a genre or not.

Wrestling games. Probably a combination of growing up and the sport(if you want to call it that) seeming to be more of a drama than actual competition and rivalry. And the modern games just not being all that... fun, I guess.

              COD

              Haven't enjoyed it since COD4

              NBA 2k

              Haven't enjoyed it since 2k9

              Wrestling Games

Haven't enjoyed since my Gamecube Days. imo THQ is a shitty company and puts out almost the same game every year for SD VS Raw.

              Tony Hawk Games

Haven't enjoyed since American Wasteland. Project 8 was imo ok and Proving Ground was just ass. If I could play Underground 1 and 2 and PS4 and American Wasteland on PS3 I would play them all day tho I loved the Tony Hawk games.

RPG's primarily. When I was a young nerd, I'd have the time to devote hours to solving everything in games like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights. Now, I just don' have the time with a fiance and a job. I've had the Witcher sitting here loaded on my Steam for months now, but I don't know when I will boot it up because I know it's a big time commitment.

Tradtional RTS - Command and Conquer used to be my jam, same with Starcraft, SupCom, etc. Now, base building etc doesn't do it for me. I AM a big fan of the Dawn of War series, as well as Company of Heroes. I was always more interested in blowing shit up, so focusing primarily on the squad level is perfect for me

There's only so much RPG's can advance and move forward, while practically every other genre can get improve over time. No matter how amazing the visuals get or cutscenes are, at the end of the day you're still doing the same basic stuff that people have been doing since the first Final Fantasy's.
Before it didn't matter so much, but now that consoles and games are on a whole nother level it's becoming more apparent.
I dunno man, gonna have to disagree with you there. I think that RPG's have the MOST room to advance over any other game genre. As the tech gets better and better, there is so much they can do with them. Just look at how far they've come since the days of Final Fantasy or old WRPGs. I don't think they've been doing the same thing since the first Final Fantasy's at all (look no further than Mass Effect 2 for WRPGs or the Persona series for JRPGs).

Another good example of how it is the genre with the most room to grow is that literally every other genre has over the years started to borrow "RPG elements" (everything from fighting to sports to FPS games) as a way to add length and depth to their games.

Anyway, for me, I wouldn't say that there is a genre per se that I don't anymore, because I'll always be happy to play a good game. If there is a genre that I think has sort of worn itself thin with me, I'd say it would be the JRPG honestly. Other than the Persona games, I just find that I have grown tired of the anime characters and all of the introspective, whiny behavior (although admittedly, I think that that has been the case due to every Final Fantasy post FF6).

Dude, you have to suck it up and play that shit. It is so damn good. It's one of the few games that despite my computer not being able to run it that well, I still struggled through the points where it chugged along just because I was enjoying it so much. Also, one of the few games where your choices have long standing ramifications that you won't be able to tell at the moment you make the decision.

This, I made a thread complaining about it about a year ago.

I use to love the old skating games where you could do ridiculous tricks and just button mash. Now the skating games are trying to be realistic and keep you on the ground, I'd go outside if I wanted to do that...

                          Fighting games

As a teenager during the SF2 and MK1&2 days there was nothing like having a bunch of kids playing the games all summer long. I just cant get into fighting games anymore. I tried with Street Fighter 4 and its not the same playing someone online like it was when you were younger and beating up on the neighborhood kids.

                          Beat em up games

they seemed fun years ago, now i cant get into them. If they made an updated Streets of Rage i would probably at least rent it though.

Some things never get old im playing Sonic 2 right now and its as fun now as it was in 1992.

Like just about everyone else i feel im over the FPS games as well. COD4 and W@W were fun and i havent enjoyed a shooter since then. Rainbow six vegas was the pinnacle of all shooters to me and i wish they would release another.

Almost everything. When SFIV came out, I pretty much stopped playing everything else and now I play fighting games all the time, occasionally popping in a shooter or platformer..

I'm quite the opposite of you in regards to RTS games. My favorite RTS game was Warzone 2100, which had plenty of blowing things up in it, but you also operated from a fixed base, and had both assault and defend missions. Building it up over multiple missions was awesome.

I do feel the same way about RPGs to some extent. I love to play them, but I don't have time to go through a lot of it anymore, and I miss out on some of the experience of the game that way. I would love to play the Mass Effect games and Fallout 3 through as a "bad guy" but I just don't have the time.
