Even if they are developing one...it wouldn't come out till Holidays 2012...which is a year and a half away. Pretty sure it would be pushed back until Summer 2013. Either this is fake or they just want to take away some thunder from Nintendo....but I seriously doubt it's coming out any time before Wii 2.

edit: Sony is the odd man out. Xbox 720 would be the most powerful (between MS & Nintendo), and Wii 2 would have first out advantage.

What is this new console going to bring that is going to make me want to get it ASAP? 3D certainly isn't going to do it.

At the moment, I can fathom what it would be. The only thing I can come up with is if the console becomes a complete entertainment tool. As in, you could replace your cable/satellite TV service and use your console for television.
      hopefully it has blu-ray......

I figured development of the new console would pushed up with the announcement of the Wii 2. I'm predicting holidays 2012.

I don't know why they never utilized that format for the 360. Sure, using it for movies failed miserably. But why not keep it for games? That's what they should've went with in the first place. It could've been their proprietary format. It wouldn't be any different than UMD's on PSP, those tiny discs on Gamecube, etc.

Nah, they should just said fuck discs alltogether and put solid state drives in all the consoles.

Then have games install via download or retail using USB drives.

Removable discs fucking suck, everything needs to be on the console so load times can go the way of the dodo.

I think that is probably what the next consoles will all have. It sounds like that is probably what Nintendo is doing with Project Cafe' since they said it won't have a hard drive and only 8GB flash memory.

I think going that route with this generation was a little too forward thinking. There are still TONS of people, myself included, that love collecting the physical games. Not to mention you can't trade in a digital copy.

It's harder to copyright protect digital copies too, I'd imagine. Look at PC gaming.

How many Xbox 720s am I gonna have to exchange until they fix the damn red lights?
                      :D

                      Just kidding.

I think it's time for a new generation of new consoles.

I think a six-year console lifespan is good enough. I want something new. The idea of an SSD console might work, but I agree with Twigg, I like owning my games and having the ability to trade em in.

The PS3 and 360 have reached their peak, it's time for something new.

Instead of the red lights when the 360 had overheating problems the 720 will instantly burst into flames.

Whether or not the console uses physical media, I'm hoping that they don't come out until 2014, when SSD prices are reasonable.

SSD drives are the future and like KG said, loading times would be cut down to nil.

Agree with Twigg that Xbox and S3 are just starting to hit strides with software. I don't think either have anything to worry about when it comes to Nintendo stealing profit with a new console.

Electronic Arts' director of corporate communications Jeff Brown said in a statement to IGN, "This story is a total fabrication – 100 percent not true."

Developers like EA are going to put pressure on console makers to make digital copies. They HATE that places like Gamestop can buy back games and resell them for 100% profit to them. If formats switch over to something digital, Gamestops won't cease to exist completely, but the company will get scaled back.
