[PS3] Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition

Coming to XBL/PSN sometime this summer.

DMAmul was kind enough to type up his impressions of Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition after checking it out at E3 2011. He gives a rundown of some of the new features the game offers, and a few other details as well.

    • There is a trial/challenges mode just like SF4. They have a basic and expert parrying mode, and then set of trials for each character just like SF4. I saw the producer of 3s online going through a bunch with Akuma, and they get pretty hardcore as you go further into the game.

    • One of the parry challenges on expert was EVO MOMENT #37, Daigo vs. Justin. Chun-Li against Ken, on Ken's stage... exactly the same setup. You have to parry all of Chun's attacks and then hit the same combo as Daigo did (Jumping Hard Kick, Crouching Medium Kick, Shoryuken, Cancel into Super).

    • Ton of screen options: There was a smoothed filter, no filter, and you could even turn on scanlines. There was also a stretched mode which didn't look that great, but a widescreen mode which retains the look of the game while giving you more screen real estate to look at.

    • You've seen the challenges and achievements that are on the left and right side of the game screen - when you complete these you earn points to unlock a ton of stuff, character art, remixed tracks, etc.

    • GGPO - 8 player quarter match!

I think lag will destroy the parry system.

Interestingly enough, GGPO is a special kind of online system that actually does some weird shit to "hide" lag. So I'm not too sure how bad it'll be. Someone on a stream over this past weekend was talking about how they'd play people over japan in ST in GGPO with like 80 spectators and the matches would actually be lagless.

Fuck street fighter, the series is milked harder than Guitar Hero.

Boo. They do do a lot of re-releases but hey, this is my favorite in the series and arguably the best. Also, I don't have it for anything else, so this is perfect. Besides, I would hardly say that the series is milked...until this generation patches didn't happen for console games. I suspect that the future of SF will see less re-releases just because they will tweak via patches (Super Street Fighter IV is obviously an exception, but that game was such a massive overall it needed to be its own release).

False...Street fighter 4, Super street fighter 4, HD Remix, Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade edition. Not possibly milked imo. Also, even if you DO think it's milked, SFIV completely revived the fighting game community. Milk it baby.

Good point. In that case Im hoping for a smooth fighting game. MVC3s netcode has been so so and it was supposed to be gods gift to fighting online.

Yeah, if you visit any of the big fighting sites, there's always petitions to try to convince other fighting games to use ggpo.

MVC3 completely dropped the ball. I think GGPO is the real deal though.

Yeah I read about that all the time on SRK games like skull girls and what not are starting GGPO.
