I never saw the point in preordering, any big title you go in the first day and there's thousands of copies behind the desk. Nowadays there's no risk in not being able to get the game if you don't preorder. As far as gamestop in general, I've always found better prices online and there's nothing more convenient than having the game shipped to you.

I buy used Gameboy Advance games from Gamestop, otherwise I just use Amazon.

Gamestop is great for B2G1F used games. Other than that there is no reason to shop there.

Kmart and Bestbuy give you gift cards, price match and reward zone points. These points actually convert into money unlike the GS Power Up program, which I might say is the worst program ever.

So why do you buy there? I saw Twigg preordered his PSP2 from GS....I ask why?

          EDIT: Forgot to mention Amazon
The only reason I pre-order or buy anything from GS, honestly, is because I get a discount there. They hardly ever have any deals besides used deals so it's basically pointless. As I mentioned in the Vita thread I will probably change my pre-order to Best Buy for the RZ points or maybe even Amazon at some point because I don't get a discount on hardware. I would imagine Amazon will be offering some kind of pre-order incentive closer to launch.

Every once in a while GS has a crazy good deal on new stuff but it is few and far between. I honestly think they have to be feeling the heat from these other retailers and will have tyo start stepping up their game. The only problem is that their used game business is so lucrative they might not have to. The push towards all of these online passes and incentives to buy games new might push them over the edge though.

For the most part I totally agree. I've had to correct those idiots numerous times. Although there is one manager at my closest store, the one that gave me teh list of Vita pre0order games, that actually knows his shit. He's in his 40's and not some pimple faced clueless kid. When I went to pre-order the Vita, before I could even say anything, he said "Apparently information leaked that the release dat will be November 4th. But I should have more concrete info by next week." That "leak" came out two days ago so he is on his shit. Plus I know him from way back when he was the manager of the store in my patrol area and he obviously knows me. Now he works at the store closes to where I live and that store is always fucking busy. Plus, he's honest. If he doesn't know something about a game he'll flat out tell you he hasn't played it or doesn't know anything about it.

That is one thing that seriously pisses me of about GS. How many times have you not received the bonus? I know I've been screwed a few times. They just never receive them. It's bullshit because their main incentive to encourage pre-orders are the bonuses and incentives. But sometimes tehy never come through.

There was someone that wrote into one of the podcasts I listen to. He was a former manager at GS. He basically broke down the whole bonus and incentive process and the bottom line was that a good percentage of the time they either never receive the "promised" bonus from the manufacturer or they never receive anywhere near enough to cover all the pre-orders. It's bullshit.

Honestly, the only problem I've ever had is waiting to long to put the code in. I've never otherwise had a problem.

I've pre-ordered games (AC:R, for instance) BEFORE the bonuses are announced, and I still don't have problems.

Best Buy is the best place I've been to for trading in games, get store credit to spend on anything, I've boosted by blu-ray collection a TON by trading in there.

The only game I buy (NHL series) is at GS and I get my bonus no problem. Don't know how others run, I assume the same. Got a code on some fancy print out and just typed it in.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

                        "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

I knew a guy like that. He got pissed off with the company for plenty of reasons. Number one being the preorder issue. The second was that he was tired of all the crap they gave employees for not selling "add on" stuff and cutting his payroll. Third, he was tired of his bosses telling him how to market his store. They kept pushing games for PS3 and the 360, despite the fact that this store is in a mall with multiple beauty salons, a Whole Foods, sandwiched between Barnes and Noble and Hallmark and the store is basically frequented daily by mothers with children. A huge portion of his sales were Nintendo-based and they wouldn't give him the freedom to market it.

Interesting enough, a co-worker of mine was also an EB Games store manager at that same store, and quit soon after the Gamestop merger. He said that it was always a Nintendo store because of the mall, and he cited the same issues when leaving Gamestop as the other guy did.

I'm not talking about codes. It's pretty much impossible to fuck that up. I'm talking about figurines, posters, etc. Physical bonuses that are promised for pre-orders.

Same here. Our two GS's are in the mall, and in a stand-alone building on the grounds of the mall. What genius thought up that one.
