To this day I will never ever understand how any one with half a brain shopped at EB/GS over mom and pops. Maybe it was my area but cash for games , super low prices on used games , no tax hook ups , imported games , repair services , were somehow beat by 57.99 used games and GIVE US YOUR MADDEN 11 AND WE'LL GIVE YOU 3 NICKELS TOWARDS NEW GAME!!!
Are cardboard cut outs that fuckin attractive ?
Not that it was a mom & pop, but doesn't anyone remember FuncoLand? I will never forget that they gave me $40 for Coach K B-ball on the Genesis.

I also loved this store VGE (Video Game Exchange). It wasn't really a mom & pop but I think they only had a handful of stores nationwide. The employees knew everybody and they were super cool. The prices were much better and they would always hook me up if I bought a game that sucked ass.

Never had the pleasure to shop at a mom and pop. It was always GS or Wal Mart.

True Knubb, my generation (and me) have known only Software E, Eb Games, and Gamestop. Then EB bought Software E, and GS bought EB. Only thing ive ever really known.

funcoland got bought out by gamestop/EBgames

we had a VGE here. i used it a few times, but i always used EB Games back then

those were the stores back then. you could find anything you wanted and they always had games early back when preorders meant something.

they would always pick up madden and have it for sale days before anyone else. the guys drove from cleveland to lexington, KY to pick up their stores order so people like me who were dying to play madden, could do so.

its easy to hate on them today for pre order codes and stupid sales pitches ect ect....and agree with all that. But GS is a business and they are doing what they have to do to make money.

just dont forget all the great things they offered back before street dates and a flooded gaming market

I remember when the managers would do that for us too. They would get in their cars, drive and pick up the shipment and get them back to us before close so we could have it, aaaandd so they could beat their competition and sell that beeyotch.

Well does this thread not prove that location matters most?

My closest gamestop is real close, but they are dumb as shit... I was talking to the manager for a while as I always do when Madden comes out and I go to their tournaments and stuff, and he even admitted that his whole staff was socially retarded. But I guess that's what you expect going there right? I do mind getting raped on trade-ins, but I like to go pick up the game, get home and play it, not wait in the mail, and I have a walmart about 10 minutes north, but it's not 24/7, I have one about 20-25 minutes south that is, just not worth those drives if I want a midnight release. They know me well enough from being in there for their tournaments and shit and they all know I really don't give a fuck about the new dragon magic wizard bullshit with alien monsters platform/RPG bullshit they try selling me, so I usually just get left alone, they ask me about Madden or NCAA and then they ask me if I'm going to be at the tournament and what team I'll be using, then I leave.

Actually we have 2 "mom and Pops" gaming stores here in the Manhattan area.

2 Gamestops on different sides of town.

The 2 mom and pops are...

                        GameHounds

                        and

                        Gorilla Games

Both sell new games/used games like GS. But they also sell Nintendo, Atari, SNES, Sega, Genesis, etc... games.

There is one store in my patrol area that sells all the old shit too. NES, Genesis, etc. But I think they might be a chain? Planet Replay. They also sell dvd's, cd's and other shit.
