[ALL] Capcom tries to kill used video game sales with the one-save game

Buying used video games is great for gamers who don't want to pay full price for the latest hits. You know who doesn't like used video games? Game publishers. In a very sad twist, Capcom's fighting back against the second-hand game market with a game that can only support one save file — for life.

It's been confirmed that Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS is a game that once finished, cannot be reset for complete replay. According to both the U.S. and U.K. game's instruction manual "saved data on this software cannot be reset."

Basically what Capcom has done is make Mercenaries 3D a one-time play affair. Once you've unlocked all the goodies and played the entire game, you will not be able to erase the game's save data and start fresh as if it were a new copy. Consider this: lending Mercenaries 3D to a friend, a little brother or sister will be worthless because they'll only be able to continue playing the game with your saved settings and create their own.

We get that game publishers don't make any money off sales from used video games, but killing off the ability to hit the reset button is just taking things too far. It's like saying Upperdeck is entitled to a cut in my autographed Michael Jordan basketball card I sold at a garage sale for $10,000 some 25 years after I bought it.

While it can be argued that used video game sales are actually more damaging than piracy, it's still a lowball move for Capcom to make, especially with a franchise as large and significant as the Resident Evil series. Will other publishers follow in Capcom's footsteps to take a stand against the lucrative market of used video games? We really hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

If these assholes want to curb 2nd hand sales just fucking go full digital already.

Still use retailers for the stupid neds that are incapable of acquiring video games from the online world, but for the most part cut out the middle man and sell me the game straight from you.

What's the fucking problem here? What is stopping this from happening?

this move in just laughable. watch the epic fail in sales. who in there right mind would buy a game that can only be played thru 1 time. do these guys just wake up and say...today i am going to think of the dumbest thing possible.

here is an idea for capcom....lower the fucking price. why do gamers buy used? cause its cheaper. ok so if they did that the used games would get lowered to

ok, so go digital...but like kg said, not everyone can DL online

so how about a code. instead of the online pass, have a code thats needed to play the disc. the code can only be redeemed 1 time. nope that wont work either cause if i buy a game i have the right to play it on a friends console if i want.

bottom line is these greedy publishers are no better than the record and movie industry. The monopolized this industry and forced gamers to spend a retarded amount of money on games and accessories. now that they feel the pinch they want to blame the used gaming industry....well fuck you

Well, good thing Capcom sucks and I don't care about their games.

When they fail, hopefully all the other publishers will take not and don't follow their idea.

You do realize that only 50% of gamers are online? Then there are also people like me that much prefer a physical copy because not only do I know I don't have to worry about it being deleted somehow bug it has value. If I decide I want to resell a game I can. A digital download? Not so much.

But this practice, if true, is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Not only did I already think that Capcom could completely suck my balls for charging full price for a game that is just one offshoot bonus mode from RE4 and 5, but now they pull this shit?

They're the idiots who continue to give these used game stores exclusive content and massively reduced wholesale pricing.
                        Make up your mind.
They could easily kill the used game market by cutting the two above...but they won't they want to have your cake and eat it too.
Best reason to have a license.

I like a physical copy to put on display for myself. :coolugh:

Yeah it's always been strange to me how they'll whine about used game sales, then withhold things from games and sell it to gamestop as a preorder bonus.

The whole thing just boils down to greed. Focus should be on making quality games, not nickle and diming people for every cent you can get. That's probably too idealistic though.

Digital games are also BS because they save money on having to make the physical game but don't pass any of those savings onto the consumer. In a lot of cases the digital copies actually cost more than what you can get the physical copy for.

I guess it's a good thing I have no intention of buying a Capcom game. Do they even make games worth owning anymore?
