I've been reading a lot of the FM forums at work lately (since VSN is now blocked) and starting on the bottom is appealing to me again. If Newcastle gets boring, I think I will jump down to the BSS or BSN and go from there.Comment

Here is an update for Newcastle I posted at SI (as VSN is blocked)
Well, the wheels have fallen off a little bit at the tail end of the season. Injuries and suspensions crippled my backline at important times, and some must win games became merely one-sided draws. Coloccini was ruled out for 3 months with a damaged knee, robbing me of my most important defender. Demba Ba has been absent with injury for a while as well, though his goal scoring form has tailed off since the start of the season.
Currently we are in seventh place in the Premier League, 3 points back of Tottenham in sixth and two points ahead of Sunderland in eigth. We finish with Fulham at home and Liverpool away. Since Everton beat me (on penalties!) in the Carling Cup, we need sixth to get to Europe. Six points is probably going to be what is required to do it. If we beat Fulham, the last match against Liverpool could be vital, as they are only four points ahead of us right now. If they lose game 37 and we can beat them at Anfield, it's conceivable we could jump them. Likely? Not so much
The most frustrating thing has been a lack of consistency. We have beat United 4-1 at Old Trafford (Carling semi-final), Chelsea 2-1 at home, 2-2 away. But we have also lost 1-0 to Stoke, and drawn with Middlesbrough 2-2. We lost 1-0 at White Hart Lane, in our most important match of the season. The match after we went to the Reebok and smashed 11th place Bolton 4-0. There shouldn't be such a disparity in results and that is probably down to my tactics. I've been fluctuating probably a little bit too much lately, trying to find the perfect set up to get us into Europe. That tinkering may be our downfallComment

Alright, here are some screenies to show my squad.
The table at the end of last season
Transfers in/out over the summer window
Xisco was also let go for 4.3 mil GBP to Bolton
Current Squad
As you can see, I made some changes over the summer. Coloccini had been wanting to leave for a while, and I had hoped for more than 9 mil, but it was decent, and I still had Taylor and Bassong. I brought in Miranda from Fulham for 11 mil, so not too much difference. D'Allesandro was very good for me over two years, but he is 29 now, and I have some younger mids I want to be able to play. Demel had no place in the squad anymore, and RB was a position I thought left me exposed at points last season, so Beye was out.
For players in, I wanted quality over quantity. There were only a few places I thought I could really use an upgrade and I think I got that. My 3 CB's will rotate, allowing me to have cover and keep everyone fresh. Goosens is a bit of an upgrade over Enrique, but I think I could of done better. Still 3.3 mil isn't that bad. Capelli is a marking machine, so he should lock down the right flank while still providing something going forward. And then Morimoto. He has the versatility I wanted. Him, Jonas and Mollo will rotate on the wings while providing cover at striker.
Mollo has turned into a wonderkid and is a beast now. Still only 20 years old too. Capoue is also an extremely talented DC, but he currently locks down the midfield
Oh, and Mike Ashley is in the process of selling the club. Here's hoping for a tycoon!
EDIT - The talks collapsed and Ashley will remain. BoooooLast edited by calgaryballer; 05-17-2009, 01:16 PM.Comment

I post sporadically. I am there under CalgaryBaller, but only have 50 posts or so.
My takeover was going to be internal as well, not much was likely to change I assume. I guess things like how much transfer money I would get, etc could haveComment

Newcastle have been taken over. The new guy pumped in another 43.5 mil GBP. But now my job is under review. I turned downed offers from both United and Chelsea in the offseason, so if I get sacked now, I will be pissed
Finished sixth last season, lost to Arsenal in Semis of Carling Cup and Liverpool in final of FA Cup. Hopefully we are moving in the right direction for some silverwareComment

Been a long time since anyone posted in here.
I just started a game as 1. FC Union Berlin in the German Third Division to kill some time. I only loaded shitty nations (Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, etc) and plan to spend my life in the lower leagues for the hell of it.
Need FM2010 ASAPComment

It's pretty good so far. The layout's way different, so it takes a bit to get used too. The tactics are a different, I'm not sure how much I care for them, but I need work with them a bit. Struggling with Newcastle so far, I just signed Andy van der Meyde, so I can mess with my formation a bit more now.Originally posted by mgoblue2290If you want to win, put Drew in.Comment

I actually just recently started playing FM Live, so the layout of FM10 is very similar to that. Not a fan of the color schemes of the default FM10 skin, but that will be easy enough to fix. Loving the game so far. I barely played FM09 until recently, but the 3-D match engine adds a ton in my opinion. And its even better on FM10.
It just annoys me that there are no quick starts available for Germany or Holland. Or even Russia. Those nations are where I enjoy managing the most.Comment

Got the team figured out a bit more now. I still don't care for the tactics that much. Looks like it will be a fun year though, I'm excited to try a few new leagues out.Originally posted by mgoblue2290If you want to win, put Drew in.Comment
