[PC] Minecraft meets LOTR

Quite easily the most insane thing I've ever seen a group of users do.

This video is 45 minutes long and they skip most of the walking parts and only go from the Shire through Moria. Basically what you see in the first film. They mention doing more videos to show off the rest.

Basically this group of guys are recreating the ENTIRE WORLD on a 1:4 scale. It would take 12 hours to wander from one side to the other. They are in talks with the Minecraft Devs because they've built the entire generated world space and need more.

The things they've created are literally amazing.

If you're not into watching the whole clip, the first 25 minutes span some discussion and wandering the Shire. It's cool to see those things, to see the city of Bree and whatever.

However shortly after that they warp to Rivendell, which looks incredible.

Then Moria, which will just blow your mind as the creators giving the tour to the youtuber continually repeat. They are not kidding, it's literally mind blowing.

Since the server is publicly accessible, I may go in there and see if I can make it through Moria, although I'd wager I'd fail.


TLDR: Just watch, it's insane.

Yeah I saw this earlier and was fucking amazed. The crazy thing was how so much of it was done by hand and not by an editor, like the mountain range.

Do they really let this world stay public or is it just a copy of it? Because I would think they would not want some asshole going on the server and fucking around.

There's mods in place where permissions can be given to those who can edit. I'm sure random's can't do anything.

We need to have a competition, get a group of us to head into the mines and see who makes it out first...if anyone. lol

I don't know exactly how multiplayer works since I haven't played it, but I imagine that the server is very busy now with all the media attention this has been getting. I wish they could release it as a custom map.

I imagine the file is massive considering they've used all usable space in the game. I mean, krebs and I once built a bunch of crap in a small area and it was a decent file size. I can't imagine what 12x12 hours of walking world in minecraft, that's totally built, would translate to in file size.

I applied and was accepted to join the server, going to check this out tonight.

Logged in last night, it's cool for a bit.

Wandered through the same places in the Shire shown in the video. Warped to Moria and got my ass lost in about 10 minutes.

If you go to www.minecraftmiddleearth.com . Sign up on the forums and post a thread in the Whitelist Application section, they'll accept you within a few hours.

Probably too much to ask for lazy ass VSD peoples, but only should take you a few minutes.

What should I put for achievements? lol. I don't even have Minecraft. I just want to explore middle earth.

Also, is this available on the free version of the game? I see there is a beta that costs money, and an older free version.

That's all I put, they don't care. They just won't accept people that put "OMG I WANTZ TO GRIEF j00 GUIZE.

I bought the beta version a long time ago when it was just 10 bucks, I'm not sure what the free version is limited to when it comes to online.
