There are tons of people that either can't get satellite where they live or just don't want to switch from their current provider and would love Sunday Ticket. I could even see some people buying a PS3 just to get Sunday Ticket using their existing Internet connection and not having to switch to DirecTV.

Sony's Marketing department gets an epic fail award for this one.
The only way I knew about this was because of this thread. I mean I would have stumbled upon it probably online somewhere, but probably not as an advertisement.

Why wouldn't they be advertising for this? TV, Print, etc etc. Seems like a huge opportunity.

      Agreed. Horrible, horrible job.

I don't know why there haven't been some cooperative NFL/Sony commercials ala the Netflix ones where they say "Streaming also available on your favorite gaming console" at the end.

And like Godspeed said, besides Kotaku and here, I would've never known about this. What does that say about the average consumer/casual gamer?

DirecTV wants you to subscribe to their full TV package so they can make more profit and count you as a sub. They also must get most of the revenue and Sony isn't really that vested in the success of the program. Either that or the suits at Sony are not seeing the huge upside of this venture.

I would imagine they have something to do with it considering if you're a subscriber already you only have to pay and additional $50. If they didn't have anything to do with it I can't see how that would even be mentioned or part of the deal.

I went back and looked at the press release and saw it was a partnership with them. Too much to drink on Monday afternoon :D

The Playstation blog has been updated with details of the program. I just checked the XMB crossbar and Playstation store and the app or link is not online yet. The link to the video gives you a good idea of how it is going to work. Looks pretty damn slick!

                    Better late than never.....

Kickoff the NFL Season on PS3 with the NFL SUNDAY TICKET App, Available Today on PlayStation Network

+ Posted by Philip Rosenberg // Senior Vice President, Business Development, SCEA

We recently announced our partnership with DIRECTV to bring their most popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, directly to you via your PlayStation 3. Starting later today, you can access the direct link in the My Channels category under the TV/Video Services icon on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) or head over to the media category of the PlayStation Store to download the app in anticipation of the new 2011 NFL season.

This Sunday, PS3 owners without access to DIRECTV will be able to live stream every out-of-market Sunday NFL game on their PS3 with a subscription to NFL SUNDAY TICKET. You’ll be able to enhance your NFL experience with live multi-game scoreboards and field position trackers, which also allow you to access highlights, stats, standings and schedules, as well as the Red Zone Channel, which gives you live coverage of Sunday’s most exciting moments. The subscription for the 2011 season can be purchased directly through the app for $339.95. Existing subscribers can use the PS3 as an additional receiver in their home, as part of their NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go package, which is purchased through DIRECTV.

Check out the video to see how the app works on PS3:

Why would anyone need to do this? I assume if you have a TV it already has a DTV receiver?

I wish we could try this out before going all in and paying $340. What if the stream sucks?

                            Exactly...I want a free week 1.

How quickly can I switch between games?
How Laggy is it on a wireless connection?
Do I need to hard wire it?
How is the PS controller with controlling the interface?
I can't watch my Giants on this if they are on Fox?
So if I wanted to switch between the local game and others I could not?

You could also use it to take your PS3 with you to a friends house to watch the games or on the road with you for vacation. Same as an iPad or laptop though I would probably prefer the laptop for travel since it is more versatile and can be connected straight to a big screen via HDMI.

Yeah I'm definitely not sold. While it would be amazing if it functioned properly I can't pony up that kind of money not knowing what I'm getting myself into.
