its really going to depend on your network and your ISP. I fyou have verzion fios i would think it would be fine. If you have "Joe Dirt cable and phone".....not so good

How quickly can I switch between games? The demo video looks like it was pretty straight forward. The PS3 has more than enough processing power to handle an H.264 stream change quickly.
How Laggy is it on a wireless connection? I wouldn't use wireless unless it was N.
Do I need to hard wire it? Wired is always >>> Wireless
How is the PS controller with controlling the interface? The PS3 remote would probably be better but it didn't appear to be that difficult with the controller in the video.
I can't watch my Giants on this if they are on Fox? It's likely to black out games for the zip code registered on your account with DirecTV. You would have to watch local games from your provider or OTA.
So if I wanted to switch between the local game and others I could not? You might have to switch inputs from the PS3 to your local game. I will probably just PIP the two inputs so I can easily switch back and forth.
        See above

If and that's a BIG if DirecTV has sufficient bandwidth on their servers and you have an Internet connection >8M, you should be able to handle a full 720p/1080i H.264 HD stream with no issues. If there is some buffering, all the better.

This reply from a Sony rep on the bitrate for the Sunday Ticket package is very concerning...a 3M stream is not going to look good on a big TV. The MLB.tv stream by comparison is 4.5M. A 3M stream would look ok on an iPad or a laptop but on a TV bigger than 32" it would be a joke

I don't really understand all that techy mumbo jumbo but that sounds really shitty. I guess that would be similar to blowing a 2.0 megapixel photo up to poster size?

Exactly. It looks great on smaller screens but not so much if you are looking at it on a jumbo screen. If they are using H.264, which is highly likely for an IPTV configuration, the full H.264 bitrate required for 720p/1080i is around ~8M which is what DirecTV provides to their customers. 3M would be less than half of the bitrate required to look as good as the satellite broadcast.

I really hope the Sony customer service rep misspoke or this might be dead in the water...

                Essentially.

                OTA Antennas usually 13-18
                DirecTV 8-14

                PS3....3 ???

Thats not going to look good at all unless they have the most amazing codec breakthrough ever.
Best reason to have a license.

MLB.tv streams were 3M only 2 seasons ago, then they upgraded their networks and everything was crystal clear. That saying, 3M was pretty bad ass. NHL gamecenter is terrible both on the PC and ps3, they don't spend enough money on their streaming service because well they don't have that much money.

In the case of the NFL and Directv we shouldn't encounter shitty stream problems because well they are just richer.

I would be tempted if it did have monthly payment options.

OTA is 19.3M and DirecTV is 8-9M but that is not an apples to apples comparison. OTA uses MPEG-2 which is only half as efficient as H.264. Cable companies use MPEG-2 and IPTV/Satellite providers use H.264. This 3M bitrate better be a mistake or nobody is going to want to watch this on a big screen TV.

There is an option for 4 monthly payments of $84.99

The app is now live in the PSN store under "Media and Apps", it's not showing up in the XMB crossbar yet.

You are correct. My goal was to make the PS3s bitrate look paltry by any means necessary.

I just purchased it. For some reason when I bought EA Sports Season Pass, PSN didn't deduct my $25 so I only had to pay $59 today! #winning
