Can't add microsoft points, need help...

I bought a card for 1400 microsoft points yesterday and I tried to redeem it both online and on the game, and when I do it online it says that I can't redeem points at this time, and on the console it simply won't let me... I even put in a credit card on file and the same result happened, can someone help me here?
