    The first day of EA Sports' "Season Ticket" premium subscription, offering a three-day (or more) full preview of Madden NFL 12, does not reflect wide acceptance among the hardcore community it was meant to appeal to.

    As of 11 p.m. EDT, Madden NFL 12 showed 3,559 users connected to the game through Xbox Live. On PlayStation 3, 1,115 were said to be connected to the EA servers through the game.

    These are the numbers of people playing Madden NFL 12 with an online connection. Actual multiplayer numbers showed 465 users in a multiplayer game on the 360, 115 on the PS3. Earlier in the day, Xbox Live's numbers hovered in the area of 1,000 connected and 100 to 200 in a multiplayer game.

    "Season Ticket" is a premium subscription ($24.99 on PSN, 2,000 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live) allowing at least a three-day, full preview of five titles before their release date, Madden NFL 12 being the first. It hits shelves on Tuesday.

    While celebrities and some in the specialty press were provided full retail copies before release for review or promotional purposes, these are estimated to be fewer than 1,000. So a day-one showing of 4,600 subscribers does not look good, even as a fraction of a title selling in the millions.

    We'll continue to peek in on the total as the weekend wears on.

          Indeed great news. Took 68 minutes to download my damn game.
          But, seriously, I agree with you guys. I hated paying for it, but I wanted a weekend of Madden before Tuesday ... and, many years, I'd drive to Toronto trying to find it and spent way more than $25 before the day was over.

                          3 days isn't long enough to make a lot of people jump at getting the game. Make it a week, and you may see those numbers double or triple. Plus other then 3 days, it just offers money of spending more money on DLC. I guess if you think of it as 5, 3-day rentals you won't feel screwed.
                          All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

                          "rammer" and "cummings"

                          The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

                                                      Tough to say.

                                                      Would a generous guess of 10K sales be fair? I mean the article says 1K were probably given out, who knows how many of those online figures are freebies, early purchases, etc.

                                                      But at 10K Season Ticket sales that's 250,000, which might seem like a nice lil profit but you'd have to figure out the cost to develop it.

                                                      The salaries of those that worked on the project
                                                      All the marketing they did
                                                      Any cost with pushing 47,000GB across those networks perhaps?


                                                      Profit or not, if the sales truly are 10K I'd really doubt it was worth it for EA to do it. Especially with all the reports of bugs and shit popping up on OS. They could have just dug into their release day sales if people decide they want to wait for a patch or something.
