    VSN Community Speed Threshold

This will be handled a little differently than the other setting polls. I will admit that I do NOT want to change this setting. I have not seen "fast players get caught from behind by a DT down field" like OOBL says. I think its pretty realistic that any player can be caught within the first 10/15 yards. I also think its good that EA has finally over the past few years made it so the SPD rating is not the only thing that matters for skill position players. I have a couple of 80 yard runs with Hillis, mostly by weaving through traffic early in the run and avoiding the speedy players...but my question is if Hillis never gets run down by a DT downfield, who in the hell are these fast players that it happens to?

I personally feel that people making these complaints are those that love the speed cheese. It eats them up that the instant Jamal Charles (just an example) gets the ball the back side DE can still catch him before he gets going. Is that not football?

I also think its unwise to make core gameplay changes in community games that cannot be made in our leagues. This will effectively make pick up games completely different in gameplay than league games.

That said, community settings are just that. The settings for all of us. If you would like to make a case for speed threshold being changed, please post replays showing the things you think would be corrected by this change. If there is enough interest/proof of there being a problem, a poll will be created and we will vote on it.

No changes should be made IMO.

Godspeed can vouch for this.... in our game today i broke away with Chris Johnson a safety and Shaun Cody who were both around the LOS caught me about 40 yards downfield on a breakaway where i was ghost. Nobody was near me after i busted about 5 yards away from the LOS.

CJ is 99 speed 99 acceleration, DT Shaun Cody is 59 speed.

I dont know how i feel yet about changing the speed threshold but i wanted to provide an example of how this does happen. Chris Johnson is the only semblance of speed on my team so leaving the speed threshold where it is probably helps my bummy team.

Of course not with your bummy ass slow team and you somehow are winning games, why make speed more important?

Anyways... even if we change it a little bit, when you have a speedy WR you should be able to utilize that as effectively as a tall WR. Speed has absolutely no bearing on the games right now, but strength, height, agility, catching, jumping, every other attribute stands out in the game.

I posted about that play in the chatbox as it happened and everyone seemed to agree that "speed doesnt matter in madden 12". I say if we change it try something small like if its default to 50 try 45 maybe, nothing drastic.

Hate on cheddar. U mad? Glad to see speed isnt the most important attribute like in years past. And LOL at a Carolina fan calling someone teams bummy. Remind me where your garbage team picked this past April.

Was Cody back in coverage from a zone blitz or something? I really wish there was a replay to see. Theres no reason he should be able to run him down from behind, but if he has an angle or something i could see it. especially if it was a zone blitz.

REGARDLESS of a DT's angle there is no way they should run down the fastest HB in the NFL 40 yards downfield. Even if he was dropped into a zone your looking at 5-10 yards back max, to catch CJ is ridiculous

I know you are really quick to jump to conclusions, but i want to see it myself. Now you know to save the replays when this happens. Im going to go out on a limb here and say we wont see too many replays. once you realize the cuts you make and shit that slow you down I doubt this is as big of a problem as you think...

Virix im pretty sure it was a zone blitz tahts the only reason i can see Cody being one of the guys to run with me downfield.

combine numbers arent ever 100 pct accurate but Bailey tested at 4.28 seed and Ben Watson had 4.5 speed. While Champ is a burner Ben Watson is no slouch himself.

But 4.2 should outrun 4.5 every time. My point is, it doesnt. Many things come into play in a football game.

I'm not gonna say no changes should be made, but there should be a minor tweak. We know OOBL wants the threshold at like 20 so his speed cheese can thrive, but I'm thinking 40 should be the right number, because I have seen CJ2k and Jamaal Charles get caught when everyone knows they shouldn't. 40 I think would be the perfect number to create the right gap in speeds.
