Houstonboys Road to Redemption(6 months to go)

Ok since I no longer care about online rank, record, or online bums I've been trying to work on my sim baller skills and get it down pact before '10 comes out.

Now I know VSN members aren't known for helping others in madden and given out tips, not to mention the game has been out for so long but any help would be greatly appreciated.

The biggest problem I have right now is pocket pressesence when dealing with blitzes. They've never been a problem before because I've always avoided them with mobile QB's.
Now, as long as I'm not facing a blitz I'm alright in the pocket, but when they come I end up getting sacked or throwing stupid passes that lead to pics.
Right now I'm thinking about using a formation like Splitbacks3WR and then setting 1(or both) of my backs to block for extra protection, and then having 3 WR options to pass to.

How do you guys usually deal with blitzes? My biggest fear is trying to play with a sim offense and running into someone who plays defense the way I do which is blitzing on every single down no matter what

you don't have to run 3 wide 2 backs. You can keep your TE in also and just move a little to the side that your TE is on as you should have more blocking. Don't drop back to far and trust your big guys to block because more often then not they will.

Run draws against a blitzing defense and if you pull off a big run or 2 that should stop them from blitzing so often

that was my point. You didn't give him any tips. All your post said was "I move around so I don't get sacked"

If you know they are going to blitz i hot route a receiver to a drag route. Usually an easy completion.

Houtz- My GT is BlackMagicSnake and I have a mic. I'm usually available all week.

HaleYes-I'm just trying to change my offense to a sim one not my D. I've got my Defense to work perfect for me, there's no way I'm changing that.

Kmanharris-Yeah you're right I probably do drop back to much. I remember back in '08 whenever I tried to roll out of the pocket I got sacked immediately. I was getting whooped by someone online and he told me that you have wait a sec for your blocks to develop and for the D-line to commit straight down towards and then roll out of the pocket. I learned that if I tried to roll out immediately the D-line would commit to my roll out and stop me.
I Guess the same thing applies for dropping back. I'll try not to go back so far from now on.
Also thanks for the TE block tip, I never thought of that.
I do run alot of draws and counters. I have no problem running the ball it's just passing...

Aso-Yeah, every now and then I run "mesh" routes. It's when 2 slot WR's on the opposite side of the field from each other both run drags. If they're not open in the middle where they meet then it's a big chance they'll be open once they get closer to the sidelines.

Thanks everyone I'm sure this stuff will help alot.

My main problem is that I was never much of a vertical passer, alot of my game was throwing passes to the flats to agile RB's and then shaking and baking people for a bunch of yards.
This was real easy because I'd just send my RB or slot WR on a out towards the sideline and then I'd take my QB and roll out with my intended WR and I only had the throw the ball like 5 yards straight ahead for an easy completion. I had already burnt and left the majority of my opponents Defense and I was already on the sideline with 1 or 2 people to beat.
Now that I'm staying in the pocket it's alot harder to complete those passes to the sidelines because of the super LB's that can pick of any ball that comes within 10 feet of them.
Since I can't throw sideline to sideline anymore I have to pass the ball vertical which I'm not use to. That's my main problem.......

Ok thanks everyone I got it down for teh most part.

Having a TE block has helped alot
Not stepping back in the pocket also helps
and drag routes are always money

I run my SIM offense mainly out of Shotgun which helps alot. I can still run just as easy but now my opponent always have to respect the threat of the run and the pass so they can't commit to just one thing. Since I use the same basic formation and run out of shotgun it keeps my opponent guessing.

Another thing I like to do is call plays when WR's run those zigzag back and forth routes. Unless your opponent manually covers it, there's a huge chance that the WR will be open eventually.

Also if it's late in the 4th or I need a conversion to stay in the game or win I like to go with curl routes. Since I haven't used them all game my opponents never expect them and it's an easy completion. I beat someone the other day doing that.

I know can pass vertically and horizontal successfully with out stepping out of the pocket. I might take 1 or 2 steps out to avoid a sack and complete a huge gain but I don't run straight for the sidelines like I use to.

lol glad I changed at the end of 09. None of the freestyle stuff I did last year works on this madden. I'm finally learning how to throw more than its and slants on '10 so that made me alot better. My pass defense is still a problem though, If I don't blitz, I get destroyed.........when I blitz I get destroyed.

Play with a team with a good/great d-line and user control an end. Then you can rush just four and get good pressure.

Yeah I realized that this year, for some reason I can't do anything with Mario Williams but I can beast with Freeney. I'd rather have good DT instead of an end though.
