[ALL] What happened to the ELO system of ranking?

I'm so tired of this rank up no matter what xp system.

Fine, give people attachments etc on gameplay, but where is the skill ranking.

Halo 2 did a wonderful job, you play against like skilled opponents, you rank up if you win. Nowadays, you lose by a ton, you still rank up! We're all winners! It is so lame, what happened?

You can say that people cheated to 50 in Halo 2, which worked out great, because the real players got to hang around 37-43 levels while all the cheaters circle jerked in their 43+ rooms

This era of shooters wants the casual gamer to play as much as possible (and buy as much DLC as possible) and they're more likely to do that if they can achieve "success" in the game without actually being good at it.

Kinda like an RPG, hadn't really thought of that before.

personally i think all games should have a terrorist hunt mode so i can spend weeks going thru dantes casino to level up

or just throw in a countdown level....

ahh fuck it...just give me a few rubber bands for my controller and im good to go

It is sad really. In halo 2 I could join with randoms in a 37 or so team snipers match and right away we would be working as a team because we all knew the only thing was to win, noone cared about kd ratio. Of course you had the derankers, superbouncers, etc...it wasn't perfect, but damn it was good.

It is weird that there really isn't any skill-based ranking whatsoever, you'd think it'd be easy enough to implement alongside the extremely simple XP system.

The ELO ranking system was built originally for chess matches and Halo 2 had a great algorithm going for team based matches which was explained fully on their website. I don't know why they left it after that. I think Halo 3 adapted to the Xbox Live general ranking system which is differnent, and Halo Reach implemented some retarded system where after a handful of games you got locked into a ranking bracket.
