[ALL] WWE Video Games: Top 10 WWE Video Games of All Time

My latest article for Bleacher Report and one of my favorite to write. Wasn't sure if this should be buried in the Wrestling Thread so I put it here.

WWE Video Games: Top 10 WWE Video Games of All Time

The announcement of Brock Lesnar's inclusion in THQ's latest pro wrestling offering WWE '12 has been the talk of the wrestling world over the past week. WWE has a storied history of video games dating back to 1987's MicroLeague Wrestling on the Amiga and Commodore 64.

MicroLeague was a largely simulation, turn-based strategy based game it was the first game to carry the WWE license. Players chose a move from their wrestler's move set and depending on the situation, either yours or the opponents move will be successful.

MicroLeague is actually a stellar game for its time featuring ring introductions, interview segments with Mean Gene Okerlund and text commentary throughout the match.

MicroLeague set the standard for WWE games to come. While there was a lull period, most notably most of the non-PC based home console systems, the majority of WWE games have been above average to good.

With a catalog over 49 games deep it was very difficult to trim this list to just ten games, but these are the true standouts in my mind. Of course, this list is a matter of opinion however a majority of these titles are renowned and regarded as some of the top professional wrestling and WWE games.

Played the hell out of this when I was 8-9 years old, still probably my favorite wrestling game.

#10: Loved WWF Raw. Played the living hell out of it. It was always awesome to make the ref leave and then just pummel the dude with chair shots. Tombstone pile drivers outside the ring FTW.

      #9: Never played.

#8: Played it a few times and hated it. Basically they were trying to cash in on the Mortal Kombat shit going on.

      #7-#5: Never played them.

#4: Single handedly bankrupted me a few times as a 6 and 7 year old.

#3 and #2: Never played them.

      #1: Never played.

The last game I owned/played was WCW/nWo revenge. I pretty much quit following wrestling around that time.

I've surprisingly played almost all of these games, and I agree with your list even though my favorite was left off it (Smackdown 2 for PS1).

I also co-sign that WCW/NWO Revenge game, I think I played that more than I did No Mercy and WM2000.

I played the hell out of Revenge as well. Trust me if it was a wrestling game list it'd probably be in the top 3.

Easily the best. The move combinations in that shit Reviewing the list I never played 1 or 2 but being as though they are both THQ games on N64 Im sure they were pretty much clones of WCW revenge.

I remember playing the hell out of this.

I didn't have a 64 so I used to just go over a friends house and play Revenge, Mayhem, etc.

I co-sign on smackdown 2. Everyday I'd go to my neighbors house and play the shit out of Revenge all the way up to No Mercy.

Thinking back I dont even think there are even 10 quality WWF/E games to begin with.

There isn't, but that doesn't stop No Mercy from being the best WWE game.

WCW/nWo Revenge is the best wrestling game overall though.

Once THQ/Aki left to work with the WWE, WCW was fucked over. Nitro, Thunder and whatever other games that came out were pure shit.

I remember going over to my neighbors house nearly everyday and we'd spend the entire day playing that shit haha. Great game.

I remember when my mom got No Mercy for my birthday as a surprise. I was soooo hyped. Couldn't even touch Wrestlemania 2000 after I popped that baby in. Gameplay was damn near perfect. When I brought the N64 to the dorms, we played the fuck of it for an entire semester. Still fun as hell to play now.

THQ still hasn't gotten a wrestling game right since then. Such a damn shame.
