I wish they would put four years of effort into meat & potatoes stuff like franchise and online.
It's amazing to me that franchise is ALWAYS broken in some way, yet they keep adding new modes before they get the old modes right. I've never touched RTTS, and i'll never touch this Diamond Dynansty, I just want a working franchise mode and an online league interface that isnt broken. This would be the perfect game if it worked right, but it's still the best sports game out there anyway.Comment

See, in my case, I will eventually get fed up and stop buying it, like I did with Madden however many years ago.
After how awesome online play was in 2010, 2011 was so disappointing in that regard. They seem to recognize it was terrible, so I have some faith it will be corrected.
As for franchise, I have zero faith. It doesnt seem to be a priority like some of the new features.Comment

While you wait for 2012 I highly recommend you tinker with RTTS. It is very, very adaptable to your wants and needs. For instance, I have my player (SS) set so that he bats but doesn't run the bases. He also doesn't take the field too often (just enough to make it interesting). I almost dropped when I came to the plate and my guy had to read signs from the 3rd base coach! (very cool) Getting your attributes to increase can be a pain if you play every game, but you always can sim. Also I do enjoy the training sessions!

Baserunning sucks so bad but I can never bring myself to turn it off...I give rep not thanks

imo the gameplay was its downfall last year..not online play. offline the game was terrible to play due to the hitting
while the analog controls were a nice addition, i felt like it was a tacked on feature and needs to be alot more robustComment

i thought the chise mode was fantastic. not perfect by any means, but the season i played out was so engaging to me.

And yeah, the hitting was seriously fucked up both online & off. I blame the addition of analog, which was unnecessary to begin with.
Hitting issues aside, online play in general was ok. I guess I should have been more specific. The online league interface was seriously broken and pretty much useless, from certain people not being able to connect for league games, to glitchy schedules and stats, etc.
Last years game just felt like a mess all around, and a strong step back from the year before. The devs even conceded that they fucked up the hitting, so I am pretty confident that it will be fixed. Same goes for online, I am cautiously optimistic that they will work it out (using a dedicated server for example is a good step). But as far as franchise goes, I think the ship has sailed and they are concentrating on goofy stuff like the create-a-team deal. Not my cup of tea at all, but clearly people are jacked up about it so I cant blame them for focusing on it.Comment
