There's nothing narrowminded about it. I don't care about the service, and I don't consider myself as paying for it because 1) I could get it for free; 2) I don't pay for gold for the dashboard. The dashboard is simply there for me as a means to get new stuff. It isn't my fault that I don't have as much trouble finding new things. Or any trouble really.
Also, just FYI: you're looking at the Featured section. If you hit the left bumper you can cycle through things like new games, new add ons, new demos, etc...and it lists all of the newest things in each category, arguably more organized than cramming everything in the first tab.
