Midway Games is reportedly looking for buyers to purchase their beloved Mortal Kombat franchise, just so the company can stay-afloat according to court documents. The official court record states that Midway is seeking an “execution of an asset purchase agreement for the sale of Midway’s Mortal Kombat franchise assets.â€
This does not 100% guarantee that the publisher is going to sell their biggest franchise to some company, but if they don’t — we might not see Midway around for much longer. It might… be their only option. Sadly.
While speaking with Edge, the head investor of relations Geo Mogliner, told Edge the company’s plans for selling the series, “We’re not going out of our way to sell Mortal Kombat,†he said.
It sounds like Mr. Mogliner is trying to comfort employees and fans of the series, but he also implied that they are NOT against the idea of selling the fighter to another publisher. However, it sounds like they are not willing to give up resources to pursue other companies and convince them to buy their legendary franchise. But if an offer came out, it sounds like they would consider it.
It has also been revealed a little while back, that Ed Boon is already devopinging another Mortal Kombat as we type.
