[ALL] David Jaffe and Gameplay vs. Storytelling

    David Jaffe DICE 2012

It goes without saying that Jaffe is a pretty outspoken guy, He's gotten a lotta heat for his views on this subject. Hoping to see what the gamers on the board think...

Kind of weird........Jaffe is all about gameplay, but at the same time, he is known for two series, Twisted Metal and God of War.

I know it will probably be a travesty to some, but I've never played Twisted Metal before. I was a bit young to be into it, and in my teen years, I was a huge sports gamer.

In any case, God of War isn't just a great game as far as gameplay goes- it has some of the best "holy shit" moments in it, but I LOVE the story. I've always liked mythology, and it took it and ran in its own direction and succeeded. I will always remember so many scenes from this game, none more than in Chains of Olympus when you are in the fields of Elysium.

I will eventually watch that video, but I hate that people try to pigeon hole games like this, or certain aspects of it. As stated, I think God of War had great gameplay and story. Why can't a game combine both? Why can't a game be one or the other? Great games are great games due to a multitude of things, you just can't boil them down to two simple things like this.
