Out of the Park Baseball 2013

Anyone else dig the pure text sim sports games? Out of the Park Baseball isn't on the level of Football Manager but its probably the closest I've played. I love that you can start up a game at any point in baseball history and really have things unfold in an endless number of different ways in regard to expansion, drafts, and so on.

Don't know that they've changed much for the new version which comes out in April (most likely) but I'm likely to still give it a go. Anyone else?

Maybe I'll give it a try.

I've been looking for a torrent of the Eastside Hockey Manager for a Mac and haven't had any luck.

I could never get into OOTP. Even though that's what I love most about baseball and baseball games (offseason, trades, free agency, etc) I just couldn't get into it. It was almost too overwhelming at first.

I've been playing OOTP9 like it's my job this past week. I love it. Has it changed much since then?

I liked Eastside Hockey Manager, but it felt like it was a version or two away from being really good instead of just good. I was pretty disappointed when they killed the series. I recently transferred it over to my new laptop but haven't done anything with it. I think there are data updates for it but not certain.

Yeah, there is a lot. The game is almost too-customizable, which is part of what threw me when I first started playing. I will often just play as the GM rather than worry about the day-to-day management aspects.

I don't know that there have been major changes, but a lot of refinements.

I picked up a copy of Eastside for $5 at Canadian Tire in some sale bin. Though I hardly play it, I had to buy it just in case.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

              "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

Still no specific release date. Just "April". I hate that I get hyped for the game right at this time of year and its still awhile before I can play.

As someone that has never played this but has experience in Football Manager, what am I to expect?

No 3-d match/game view. A bit less polish and depth. A much greater degree of flexibility in terms of setting up the game-world, financial parameters, and so on. Significant depth in regard to historical games. There really isn't the same focus on tactics like there is in FM - more team-building and talent acquisition.

Of all the text-based sports sims out there that I've tried, its probably #2 behind Football Manager. It doesn't feel like a Basic C++ construct like a lot of them do. There will be a demo so it can't hurt to give it a try.

I took a look at Baseball Mogul 2012 demo, Rudi. Definitely looks and feels less refined than OOTPB. Feels closer to Front Office Football than OOTPB. Didn't spent much time with it, I admit, but I would be shocked if it actually compares...

I believe OOTP 9 is free now.

The changes from 9 to 13 are huge...but 9 should get you a feel for the game....you'll love it. Online leagues are awesome.

I played the crap out of baseball mogul but found i could never get into this series. Not sure why either.

                              Leafs offseason training!
