this one is for the kids. i built this one with some new and some spare parts.
I snagged a PC work was throwing away due to a toasted mobo. they took out the HDD and optical drives, so my thought was to try and re paint the case for future use. Then i got it home and noticed they didnt take the CPU which is nothing to write home about, but its still a decent cpu for web use and basic gaming.
So here is the build
Parts i already had
CPU - IntelŪ PentiumŪ D Processor 805 2.66 GHz
Hard Drive - Hitachi 7200 RPM 120gb HDD
Monitor - Hitachi 15 in LCD Flat Screen
Mouse and Keyboard
Windows 7 (pirated copy)
Parts I had to buy
Motherboard - MSI G41M-P26 LGA 775 Intel G41 Micro ATX - $45
RAM - Pareema 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 - $20
Heatsink - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - $30
PSU - LOGISYS 480W - $12
Case - PowerUp G54-8019 Executive ATX Mid-Tower Case - $15
Optical - Samsung DVD Burner $16
Wireless - EDIMAX USB 2.0 Mini-size Wireless Adapter - $15
Case Fan - Rosewill 120mm Case Fan $5
$158 Total - $20 Credit from Newegg - My Total $138
Here are some pics....pretty basic. nothing fancy
one reason i wanted to post this was to show that old PC parts can still be used. I actually had an optical drive that i planned to use, but when i installed it it was clicking every now and then so i said fuck it and just got a new one. Having the CPU and hard drive saved me $150 alone. Plus i found the free copy of windows 7 and it works perfectly...for now anyways. When MS does disable it i will just switch the PC over to Linux. But for very little cost you can re use those old parts for your self or a who ever.
