NBA Live to Return this October

    Hooray for competition!

    *insert cynical EA comment*

I was pretty underwhelmed with NBA2k's offering this year so I'll at least give Live a look next October

ORLANDO, Fla. -- With NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando, EA Sports invited a select number of players to visit their Florida development studio, showing off the latest of what the company is calling "the future of basketball" video games.

Rookie Kyrie Irving not only got his hands on the new game before anybody else outside of EA, he even tweeted the official name, "NBA Live 13," before the video game publisher had the chance to make an official announcement.

Tweeted Irving: "In Orlando for #AllStar checking out the #FutureOfBasketball with @EASPORTSNBA. Get to see the new #NBALIVE13!"

This marks the first time EA Sports has used the "NBA Live" name since "NBA Live 10" shipped back in 2009. In 2010, the company attempted to rebrand its basketball franchise "NBA Elite," but the title was cancelled a week before shipment due to an overwhelming number of bugs and a disastrous community response to the gameplay changes being implemented.

In 2011, the company decided against shipping a basketball simulation, adding another full year to the development cycle of "NBA Live 13" in hopes of turning the once great franchise back into a winner.

But will it be the "future of basketball" that Irving and EA Sports are making it out to be? The game will have to be something special if EA has any hopes of competing with the dominant force that is "NBA 2K."

Then again, anything that sparks the old EA versus 2K wars has to be good for business.

If only we could get some competition back in the NFL market …

I think it was 95 when they brought in the signature dunks for the bigger named guys and I must have spent days trying to catch a glimpse of every corny, pixelated signature dunk animation I could.

My favorite was LJ's hang on the rim dunk, which was surely illegal in the NBA.
One of those years too you could draft the Raptors/Grizzlies team. Awesome stuff. Tree Rollins at C FTW.

The amount of unlockable legends was amazing too.

Last one I played and enjoyed was NBA Live 2003. Mainly because Jon Barry would come off the bench and drain three after three. Guy averaged 20 points a game for me and nearly all of his point were from 3's.

Anxious to see their product after 2 years off. They better come back with a bang if they want anyone converting back.

              Why would anyone abandon 2k?

2K was pretty stale this year.

Regardless of what people will tell you it has some pretty bad gameplay flaws/issues.

I'm not saying I'm for sure jumping ship but I'll at least give Live a look/demo

The sad thing is that even though the game had huge bugs the gameplay still looks smoother/cleaner than NBA2k.

You mean the part where Rondo hit a 35 footer and has absolutely no momentum to his body?

Nah, more to do with the smoothness of the players and from some of the videos of Elite 11 that leaked out the players don't have that annoying "bump/stop" shit they do in NBA 2k where as soon as you touch a defender if feels like you're dragging an anchor. Plus with NBA 2k something seems off about the scale of the floor size to me. Spacing is always fucking awful.

Yup. That was probably the worst idea. Reggie Miller was in the Free Agent pool and I just hit like Left Trigger+B? and it was automatic three. Shot 80% from 3 on the season. Same goes if they were a Shot Blocker, Dunker, ect.

                          +1

Live gameplay was pretty smooth, they were just far to behind on animations, player models, controls, and realism. There was some stuff on there I def wish 2k had, especially commentary. Online was the reason I had to get rid of it, shit was beyond terrible..offline with sliders wasnt all that bad though.

I thought NBA Live was makiing strides until the Elite thing. Clearly, it wasn't 2k but it was making strides.

Like most people here, I applaud the competition. The NFL videogames could sure use it.
