Sony’s is in the process of laying off staff at SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive to the extent it could be considered a total shutdown of the studio, according to Kotaku .



Sony’s declined to comment.

Kotaku’s reporting layoffs and project cancellations have recently hit the studio, with the amount of layoffs indicating a closure. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, meaning it could carry on business as normal.

Zipper Interactive formed in 1996 by Jim Bosler and Brian Soderberg. It was brought into the Sony Worldwide Studios group in January 2006 after the developer was bought out.

The studio is well-known for its SOCOM franchise on PS2, PSP and PS3, as well as the release of online shooter MAG. Its latest – and possibly last game – was Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita.

MAG had a good concept but I just hated playing with 63 other retards that didn't understand the concept. Hey moron - when we're on offense, that doesn't mean sit back with a sniper rifle while I rush in by myself and get blasted by 20 guys at once. Good thing about that game was I could friendly fire those fags, who usually got so pissed, that they'd focus on finding and revenge killing me instead of actually playing the game. Whatever - at least they were moving now.

Agreed, the only thing I care about is winning a match. I am happy if I just end up breaking even with K/D. Speaking of which, I guess it is time to start playing Battlefield again.

Three was shit. I and II and 4 were the only ones that were playable IMO.

Hopefully someone in the industry loved Socom 1 and 2. As it was the start of the multiplayer shooters on console and maybe make a PSN online only version or something for the fans.
