    [360] Xbox 720

Couldn't locate an actual thread dedicated to the next-gen Xbox. If there is one, feel free to merge them.

    Anyway, here's a new article...

Link: Xbox 720: Blu-ray inside, always-on netcon required

VG247 has learned that Microsoft has now detailed Xbox 720 to certain partners and has internally confirmed the machine for a Christmas 2013 release.

The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive, contrary to a recent report.

Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”

We’re waiting for final confirmation of specs, but the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. The GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, in which the two chips take it in turns to draw lines of the same object: Xbox 720′s graphics units will be able to work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.
There will be “four or six” cores to the Xbox 720 CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS.

Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.

We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.

The details have emerged in the wake of a hastily removed tweet from Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, that said he was attending the “Durango summit” in London at the end of February. Durango is though to be the codename for the console.

Microsoft is not expected to announce anything pertaining to its next machine until next year.

Many developers have been posting job openings for “next-gen” and “future-gen” systems for months.

Lionhead and Bethesda are just two of the latest.

by the time that thing comes out the 4 and 6 core processors will be a thing of the past.
honestly, i dont think the gaming world needs a new gen yet. there is nothing wrong with the current gen

i guess by then we would be ready. but i hate that shit. it will take a good 9-12 months before we see any great titles. we will be lucky to have 2 great games in that 1st year. Some devs will take advantage of that too. They will release a game knowing full well that its not up to par just to make money

I think that's what they are trying to avoid as many dev studios are already working on next gen titles for a bit of time.

Last cycle I think it was less than a year for many 1st year titles.

Yeah I think they know that cant wait 1-2 years for quality titles. There is too much competition now.

I also think the new consoles will be about $300-$400.

I'll be disappointed if this is implemented in next gen consoles.

i think it is a given. PC games are moving that way...consoles will follow that. Except the Wii U.

I'm not a fan of DRM in general, and those that require a presistent internet connection are particularly loathsome IMO. I understand piracy exists on consoles, but it seems to be far less of a problem than on PC.

i dont like it either, but i think it will happen. i didnt think console piracy was a big deal...especially when u compare it to PC piracy

shit, i found LA Noire and SR 3 downloads yesterday. SR3 isnt that old

All about the money. We all knew that Microsoft and Sony weren't going to sit by and watch Nintendo release a new console and do nothing.

Anyways, yay for Bluray drive, fuck Kinect. My consoles internet connection are on all the time anyways, so I could care less about that.

Always on is retarded. Too many people without internet connections to all there consoles or at all.

I dont get "kinect built it" does that mean I have to put the fuckin console on top of my tv ?
Alot of people out there consoles in other rooms or cabinets away from the TV. Ill assume they will still nickel and dime you for the camera portion.

4-6 cores already sounds outdated. Theres phones and tablets with 4 cores now.
Best reason to have a license.
