[ALL] Sleeping Dogs (formerly True Crime: Hong Kong)

After seeing some footage in that Pulse video Handle It posted in the PSN thread a few days ago, I've become more intrigued by this game. It looks pretty fucking bad ass.

I am a little concerned that the game is being developed by United Front Games though. As far as I know the only other games they have developed are ModNation Racers and the upcoming LBP Karting. Quite the departure from kart racing games I'd say. The racing bits should definitely be top notch though. ;) Plus the fact that Activision bailed as a publisher when the game seemed to be coming into the home stretch of its development. But Square/Enix is a smart company so I doubt they would've picked it up if they didn't think they had a quality game on their hands.

Edit: I have no idea why this video isn't embedding.

          Driving trailer.

Oh shit! I noticed that they have "action hijacking" reminiscent of Pursuit Force on the PSP. Good shit.

I think this game has caught my interest again. Seemed pretty fun when I watched this stage demo yesterday on GameSpot's live stream. I also think it helps that they are releasing in August before the onslaught of the other games in the fall.

Sleeping Dogs receives adults-only rating in Japan

Sleeping Dogs, the upcoming Hong Kong-based gritty action title from Square Enix received a Z rating from the Japanese rating organization CERO (the equivalent of an AO rating from the ESRB). As a result, the game will be modified for Japanese audiences, particularly to penalize players for attacking civilians, according to CVG.

Additionally, a sex scene in the game will be softened, and the game won't include a character that signals the start of a street race. Z-rated games in Japan are not displayed on store shelves, so buyers will have to ask for the game by name at retail store counters (much like the Xbox 360 version of No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise). The practice of adapting a game for Japanese audiences isn't uncommon, as THQ's Homefront shipped without Kim Jong-il images in 2011.

Sleeping Dogs received a Mature rating from the ESRB, and is set to launch on August 14 in North America.

The Japanese make no fucking sense. Shocker, I know. They can have a hostess bar game where the sole purpose is to get a happy ending but they can't have a race starter for a street race in a game? Really?
I just wonder if they ar more strict on games made outside of Japan?

I'm referring to Japan forcing them to take out race starters bro. If there is full penetration, tehn yeah, that's overboard. But when they have to take out street racing starters yet there are Japanese hostess bar sims with happy endings?

I'm pretty sure this game is going to be a day one purchase. I absolutely love open world games like GTA and Saints Row.

Those environmental hazard things look really cool. The fish hook>

Definitely one of the more under the radar games of this fall. Cannot friggin' wait.

My prediction for this is that there will be some people will really love it but there will be some sort of flaw or something missing in the mechanics that prevents it from being classified in the same tier as a GTA or Saints Row game. I am just getting a sense of a certain lack of polish and refinement overall.

Hopefully I'm wrong though, it does look like it has the potential to be very fun and it would be nice to have a sleeper gem in a period devoid of sandbox titles.
