it can play slower and more poetically..but the truth is it has so many holes in its logic..2k5 was even better than that..its time to move on

2K5's gameplay is not better than 2K8. I guarantee you that.

imo 2k5 and 2k8 are pretty much the same game just a graphics update.

The blocking logic is the same in both games, it needed to be updated in 2K8 and they didn't do it. Blockers will still run all the way up the field and ignore anyone behind them, you can't get mad at it now, the game is more than 5 years old.

However player movement always did and still does shit all over EA's product, it used to be a lot of fun trying to break down a tackler in the open field.

one thing about 2K8 I did like was the fact that when you built your team you actually had to kind of have a strategy behind it, it put a big emphasis on picking the right playmakers and it made the game play pretty good. people had to play to their strengths and no team was perfect on both sides of the ball.

One thing I noticed is some of these plays actually work better based on a couple things.

2K5 fucked up the 4-3 defense. What they have in that game is not what a real 4-3 defense looks like or ever has been which annoys me to no end. 2K8 got that right and you have a lot of flexibility now in your 4-3 defense and it plays properly.

Also the HB Zone cutback works properly with the update whereas in the out of the game product it doesn't in 2K8. 2K8 does have numerical ratings, their just hidden from the user. I think maybe they made offensive lineman a little faster? Idk but thats actually my favorite run now.

The game definitely has flaws. I'm not a huge fan of the 3-4 defense. The LB shifts are weird and they don't give you scheme flexibility like the 4-3. They give you the classic 3-4 defense with no variation and the LB's don't shift into any real life formation like the 4-3. The outside zone run is completely busted and their are certain plays that are plain broken too.

I strongly disagree with just a graphics update comment though. I mostly only play 2K5 for the franchise mode because I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay as much as I am 2K8. 2K8 I think is the best shot of real football gameplay we've ever seen.

Not a perfect game but my favorite football game of all time. Glad the thread has turned into the discussion it has though. Decent discussion of 2K vs Madden. I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into when I started this thread.

Like I said I own both titles and I see very little difference between the two.

If anything, 2K8 is just a polished 2K5, because there's not a lot really "new" with 2K8.

They were ahead with a lot though. such as showing coverage shells and such. one thing about Madden that annoys me a little is the fact the defensive secondary always gives away the coverage. if it's a 3 shell they're going to show it, if it's a 2 the safeties won't move, if it's a 4 the safeties wont move but the corners will give cushion. in the 2K titles you could run a straight up cover 2 but show a cover 3 look with the press of the d pad. in Madden I have to do that manually with the safeties.

I think I'll go ahead and pop one of those titles in next week to give myself a refresher. if I could ever get updated rosters for 2K5 on the 360 I would but It's not as simple as it is on 2K8.

a few months ago there was still a miniscule 2K football community. it's not huge but the few that are around are fully comitted. I know Hex Editing opened up a new interest in the game.

The coverage shells are huge too. I think the 2K8 hex edit is easier than the 2K5 one too. It's a lot simpler, less steps.

I don't expect the game, I am counting on it.

If anyone was wondering it has been confirmed you will be able to play user vs user games (not online) which is huge for me. And being out of high school for the summer my life will basically consist of working at kfc/taco bell and plenty of spare time so I'll definitely be running a season with plenty of video. HD and all, gonna head my ass to radio shack and get all that jazz figured out.

I'm so fucking psyched for this

Amazing trailer I must say... and it's officially available for download at midnight.

Can't say I'll be getting this. I always thought Madden was 10 times the game any of the 2k games were, now and then.
