    [ALL] Star Wars 1313

Link: LucasArts unveils Star Wars 1313

LucasArts has unveiled a new Star Wars games franchise, making the announcement tonight during Spike's Game Trailers TV show.

Titled Star Wars 1313, the internally-developed third-person action adventure game will see players take on the role of a bounty hunter navigating a subterranean metropolis Level 1313, beneath the surface of the planet Coruscant.

While the game will make its formal debut at next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), LucasArts announced the game is being development with the help of artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. The game will be based on the Unreal engine and feature full-body performance capture.

Star Wars 1313 will see players utilise "exotic" weapons in a bid to uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy beneath Coruscant. According to LucasArts, the game will emphasize fast-paced combat--the game's hero will use human skills and gadgets rather than supernatural Force powers. In addition, the game will feature a combination of cover-based combat, platforming and "playable cinematic gameplay".

"Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we've always known existed, but never had a chance to visit," LucasArts president Paul Meegan said in a statement.

No details have yet been given on platforms or release date.

Not sure how I feel about that, given the recent disappointments of The Force Unleashed. I have to believe it will possibly be another "multimedia" release, where there is not a 100% focus on the video game.

What Lucasarts really needs to do is go back to their "roots" for SW video games. They need another Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron, X-Wing or Battlefront game in the worst way. Any developer with their recent games would be out of business if it wasn't for the ability to put Star Wars on the games.

There is so much they could do with it with the graphics today, I don't understand why they don't. Kyle Katarn with force powers that operate like the Force Unleashed is

I'm sorry, I just have to LOL at the pistol animation. Copied straight from Battlefront. The few hopes I have for this game are officially done.

Rumor is that the design is still a stand-in character, and that in the end it will be Boba Fett. Intrigued, but then I also remember Bounty Hunter and the more recent SW disappointments and my expectations are tempered.

This is most likely cancelled now that LucasArts got shuttered.

LucasArts Rep Says Star Wars 1313 Might Be Saved

The representative we spoke to said that this was not a decision made in haste, and a possible closing of LucasArts had been being evaluated since Disney acquired the publisher as part of the Disney/LucasArts deal in October, 2012:

"All of these things happened at once. Naturally, as any company that goes through a big announcement like this, you have to look through your whole portfolio and realign some things. 1313 was looking fantastic, the reception has been great. Our other unannounced titles are fine, it just got to a point where from a business standpoint we couldn't continue developing those internally and keep up with the direction that the company was going."

Website Kotaku is reporting that 150 LucasArts employees have been laid off, and that the games Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 have been cancelled. However, the representative we spoke to said that the company is also evaluating its options regarding projects currently in development, which could be licensed out to external development and publishing partners:

"It is worth noting that we are looking for proven external partners who can help us provide video games to our fans. We still believe in the video game industry, we still will provide Star Wars games, we're just looking at different models rather than internal production... They're evaluating everything. There's always a possibility that it [Star Wars 1313] can still come out via licensing."

The representative also remarked on the general mood at the studio today, which, understandably, is not upbeat:

"It's super sad. It's a terrible day. I want to make sure everyone realizes that there still will be Star Wars games out there."
