I canceled one...because it was the intelligent thing to do. Weird that somehow the Sony security gaff is being shrugged off because you didn't experience any negative effects. What? Do you even remember what it was like then?

Whats even funnier is that it doesn't matter that nothing has happened right away yet people feel secure in it. Why would someone who knowingly had a stolen credit card that was known to be stolen use it right away.

Peoples information about their names, address everything was released. We've all seen the files they posted showing a fraction of the info they had and people are sitting here saying "well I haven't had any problems yet". Really bothers me.

And just an FYI if your gamertag is stolen on xbox live they still don't have access to most of that info.

          Leafs offseason training!

i cancelled my card right when that shit happened. fuck taking the chance especially when so much info was exposed. what i find funny is someone sends a warning about phishing on facebook and people immediately change their password, but nobody had the common sense to cancel their cards when millions of users had their info exposed.

i canceled the card, changed passwords and anything i else i could

I mean I knew it was the intelligent thing to do, but I was lazy and decided to 'risk' it. Also I don't think it's being shrugged off, Maynard just said he never had to cancel a card because of XBL, and technically I've (and others it seems) haven't had to cancel one because of PSN either.

i didnt "have" to cancel the card because i had anything charged against me. but shit man, use your common sense. thats like having someone steal your wallet and saying...ahh fuck it, im too lazy to cancel the card

like leaf said, just because that shit happened a year ago doesnt mean it cant still come back to bite your ass. sure you may be able to get it resolved, but who wants to deal with that

Yeah, my issue wasn't that it was a reactive choice, it was a proactive one. And I think that the write up, and the reaction, to that craziness is basically as much of a shrug as is possible. Sony got lucky and has gotten lucky that there have been very little issues since that massive fuck up. I think any casual approach to it is a shrug off that isn't fair to the situation.

Great post Chrispy but I have a couple of corrections/additions.

Xbox Live Gold is technically $60/year, not $50. Yes, there are deals all the time but the MSRP is $60.

As far as social apps and such, PSN does have MLBTV and NHL GameCenter, well before Xbox ever had them. I'm not even sure Xbox has NHL yet?

With online gaming, I haven't played CoD in a few months but when I did I didn't have any lag on PS3 and I don't really see any in Bf3, which is a much more massiveely scaled game in general. I also know I hear my wife complain about lag in CoDon 360 fairly regularly so I don't think it's fair to say that Xbox is the clear winner there.

No one wins the security battle because a bunch of people are hacking live accounts and basically using the credit card on file to run up MS points in games like Fifa. No information is stolen just a credit card is run up and its pretty easy to reverse the charges and get things back to normal. I've helped 3 people with this issue now, twigg of course somehow had a hard time when it happened to him. I wonder why?.
I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here but if you think that I'm the only Xbox user that had significant problems getting their account back, points back, etc you are completely wrong. It took over three montsh to get everything back completely and their are some people that it took much longer. There are articles on Kotaku, Joystiq, Giant Bomb, etc that outline all of the issues and how long it took to fix. So trying to sweep it under the rug like it's a small problem is ludicrous.

In my issue it wasn't as simple as you try to make it to be. My account was completely compromised and points were stolen. I was actually lucky that they didn't use my card to buy more points. Instead they just drained my account of all the points I had...twice. It was around $80 worth of points, which isn't the end of the world, but it's nothing to sneeze at. And because MS's security and investigations department is so convoluted and useless it's a fucking NIGHTMARE to het any resolution. Hell, I might still be dealing with the problem if I hadn't been so persistent with calls.

So if you're implying I'm some special case and I'm just an idiot and that's whay I went through so much trouble, fuck off.

You're such a fucking tool. And congratulations for not being one of the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people that has had their XBL account compromised. I honestly hope it happens to you one day so you shut your smug ass up.

LOL. Yeah, you know EXACTLY what you're talking about, except not at all. Because that is exactly when someone would use a stolen credit card or credit card number. They try to use it as quickly as possible before the victim realize that it's even missing. But what do I know? I'm just a cop.

Yeah, I find it funny that somehow not only are you a fanboy but I'm two spots ahead of you at #1! I've been playing my 3DS almost exclusively for the past few weeks. I wonder who the #2 fanboy is in Maynard's imaginary hate world?

I don't want to get into this big fight, but stealing MS space points =/= potentially stealing credit cards. I thought (and seriously correct me if I'm wrong, it's just how I remember it) that you (Twigg) just had points stolen, not that someone used your CC to buy points and then steal them? I know as the person that got screwed that that doesn't feel like a difference but I think that it definitely is.

And Jesus fuckers, stop fighting over this dumbass shit. This is an interesting thing to talk about, particularly considering both companies starkly different approaches to their online structure. No need to get all 360 v. PS3 in this considering most of us know each other pretty well.
